An excellent teaching resource for ICT / Computing: Number Systems, providing a step-by-step walk though for converting denary (base 10) to binary (base 2) numbers. The application provides two different methods of conversion and allows the user to enter an example number of their choice; the system will then convert their denary value into a binary number, showing the steps taken to do so.
The resource has been built using Excel 2010 and will be compatible with both Excel 2010 and 2013. The programming for the application is powered by VBA, the application is self-contained and button controlled.
The full version of the application includes an assessment system to test users understanding of the conversion methods and is available for purchase in the TES resources area.

This resource can be used to track progress and achievement, identifying progress made and areas for development. It can be beneficial for planning and developing lesson plans and schemes of work, highlighting differentiation requirements.

Excel spreadsheet using VBA programming and User Forms providing a customisable interface format, allowing you to type or copy & paste a range of student names (maximum 50) onto the worksheet - then following the on-screen instructions to generate a random name selection.
JavaScript Random Name Generator
This is a handy resource that loads onto your browser on a new tab. To add your names to the generator you will need to right-click and select Open With … either Notepad or Notepad++. Here you will be able to view the JavaScript code and edit.
This is a useful resource for selecting a random student from your class as part of a starter or plenary exercise. Alternatively I have used it as a jumping-off task as part of a Computer Programming lesson, where students recreate the resource practicing their logical thinking skills and enhancing their programming knowledge.
JavaScript ID Maker
This simple program will generate an alphanumeric string that can be used as a password generator, unit code or as a starter task for a Computing lesson.
When you load the script you will be prompted to enter the number of characters you would like displayed. When you press enter the random ID is displayed on screen.
Computing - Desktop Publishing (DTP): Magazine Lesson Task
AIM: Recreate the magazine cover as accurately as possible in publisher using your DTP skills
Images can be taken from the internet
All text and shapes must be made using publisher
Students should make use of the master page, font styles/colour, shape tools, layering and alignment
INCLUDE: 10-15 printed copies for students who struggle to see the board
This application is a totally customisable version of my "Family Fortune - Top 20 Inventions" application. The default settings have been kept as the top 20 inventions of all time, however in this version you are able to design and implement your own top 20 list.
The design process uses custom built userforms, VBA programming and has undergone user testing to ensure ease of use. Simply select the Designer Mode, enter a Title for your game and then add your top 20 list items. When you are done click on Play and you will be able to play and present "your version" of Family Fortunes.

Lesson 2 of 6 - Students will make use of different software to create a digital banner for a social media profile.

OIE - Lesson 4: Using the DRAWING tool to create an Olympic Rings Poster
Lesson 4 of 6 - Students will use the drawing tool as well as skills practiced in previous lessons to create an Olympic Rings poster.

OIE - Lesson 3: Using LAYERS, CUTOUT and ADJUSTMENTS to create a contrasting image
Lesson 3 of 6 - Students will use images sourced from the web (or their own if available); manipulating the image using layers, cutouts and adjustments to create a contrasting image. In this instance a contrasting image involves joining a black & white version of an image with a color element of the image shown - similar to the masking feature in Photoshop.

Lesson 1 of 6 - Students will aim to create a simple composite image and then use cutouts and adjustments to manipulate the image.

This computing (number systems) lesson introduces students to conversion techniques between denary, binary and ASCII characters, supports calculation for binary to denary values and investigates binary addition and subtraction. Slides 9-11 are the ANSWER SHEETS and are hidden from view - recommended that this is saved as a STAFF version, and a separate STUDENT version is made available without the answer section included.
The presentation has practice examples throughout, and an INVESTIGATION segment to stretch students abilities - looking into different number systems and how they are used in the real-world.

Python Programming Home Learning Course
Lesson 2
This course is suitable for home study, students unable to attend classes due to sickness or as learning material during school closures.
This second lesson begins with a refresher task to review all the skills and programming techniques practiced during Lesson 1.
Students are then introduced to more interactive elements of Python Programming including Nested Loops, Random Values, Switch Case Statements, Casting to a String, String Manipulation and how to Collect Data from a User.
The lesson is completed with the first Python Programming Challenge. Here students will be required to use the programming skills from the last two lessons to build a working game.
Students are requested to review each section of the Lesson Workbook, and to create an Evidence Document of their own where they can record their progress using print-screen evidence and annotations.
This is an ideal lesson pack for remote study, allowing the student to work at their own pace, producing evidence of their programming skills as they progress through the course that can then be forwarded via email to the subject teacher for review, assessment and feedback.
Python Programming Home Learning Course
Lesson 1

This first lesson focuses on the core elements of Python Programming, and provides access to a free on-line Integrated Development Environment (IDE) where students can practice coding and complete lesson tasks.
Students are requested to review each section of the Lesson Workbook, and to create an Evidence Document of their own where they can record their progress using print-screen evidence and annotations.
This is an ideal lesson pack for remote study, allowing the student to work at their own pace, producing evidence of their programming skills as they progress through the course that can then be forwarded via email to the subject teacher for review, assessment and feedback.
Useful for any subject following an end-of-project assessment: enables the user to enter a maximum of 40 students names and their results into the table. When selected the student information is highlighted and the results are graphically displayed on the left of the screen. Additional information is also automatically provided including the average result, class size, the students class ranking as well as the highest and lowest scores.
This is an excellent resource for tracking and monitoring students progress in each unit, as well as providing a clear record of progress and development, supporting differentiation when revisiting the topic, aiding the completion of reports and highlighting areas for improvement/revision.
This resource has been built using Microsoft Excel 2010 and is compatible with both Excel 2010 and 2013. It uses VBA programming to run the additional features including dynamic selection highlighting and automatic formatting.

This is a fun and engaging resource designed to be used with your TUTOR GROUP - students take it in turns to enter their name into the PowerPoint application and then find and select the correct advent calendar date.
The resource is programmed in VBA and the calendar will respond when clicked with one of FOUR REWARDS - (1) Chocolate (2) Watch a Movie Trailer (3) Play a Game (4) Mystery Prize.
If an incorrect date is selected the Advent Calendar has a programmed response, and will allow the user to try again until they find the correct date.
