I am a music specialist and the music I write is original, tested on children and for the less confident teacher. My aim is to provide you with everything you need to fulfil Topic requirements and those of the National Curriculum (without having to prepare anything.) I provide Power Points/videos and give you mp3s and lyrics. Notation is sometimes given. The instrumental parts are dead easy!

The song is intended to be used as part of the study of the Jacobite rebellion or as a song to learn in the folk song genre in music. Our class are studying Great British Battles and we will use the song in that context. Examples of learning objectives are... L.O To use folk music as a historical resource or To recognize the genre of folk music. There are many objectives you could use for this beautiful song. Differentiation - There is an optional harmony I have also put up on the free section of the TES, a PowerPoint presentation about the Battle of Culloden to run in conjunction with the song. https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/history-and-music-the-battle-of-culloden-11094798 The resource here contains a video or a self running PowerPoint of the song , a copy of the lyrics and chords plus a vocal mp3 and a backing track. I have transposed the song (should you wish to play it yourself) in to the keys of C and G

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them. The 'Ode of Remembrance' is an ode taken from Laurence Binyon's poem 'For the Fallen', which was first published in The Times in September 1914.

A cumulative action chant useful for topic on Castles Title "Open the drawbridge and let me in "

I used this as part of our topic on castles. It leads onto questions and research such as Who lived in castles? The children sang it as part of a game. It’s quite challenging to chant with the backing track. Get children to count how many beats there are in between each verse. Nat Curric History They should know where the people and events they study fit within a chronological framework and identify similarities and differences between ways of life in different periods. These songs were chosen as examples of good traditional songs , two of which are firm favorites with boys!. Reading music is not necessary but it can extend those children who have piano lessons anyway.
