A really useful lesson (that can quite easily be expanded into a few lessons) to help lower ability students explore an extract from Romeo and Juliet independently. This will be specifically useful when meeting the demands of the new curriculum! There is a handy scaffold to use as well as four examples of it being used to analyse an extract. There are also five extracts from the play attached.

An introduction to understanding and figuring out what new words mean. This lesson explores different ways of working out what a word means and helps students to build resilience, becoming independent learners.

Students will independently explore Medieval life for peasants, townspeople and lords. I placed my peasant facts on the floor, townspeople facts were pinned lower down around the room and lords were placed on tables - students really enjoyed the physicality of having to move around like a peasant/townsperson/lord so this may be something to consider if delivering this lesson!

Lessons explore how to select key evidence, inference and deduction, explicit and implicit meanings, analysing structure and analysing language. Lessons are based around the new OCR English Language specification but can be used for any of the new GCSE English Language specifications.

Seven lessons on writing to describe and narrate! This scheme is aimed at lower ability students who might struggle to remember key techniques to begin with. There are lessons on what imagery is, how to locate it in a text and how to use it in their own writing. Students will also learn how to plan a narrate piece, explore pieces of narration and write their own.

Activities based around Harry Potter that are guaranteed to improve students' reading and writing skills! Each activity is based around a different lesson at Hogwarts and explores reading and writing skills in a fun and exciting way. Each activity could be expanded into a mini scheme of work or it can work as a standalone activity that spans 2 - 3 hours.

Students will independently learn about AIDS and World AIDS Day. They will be given the opportunity to explore where HIV came from, how it spreads, what World AIDS Day is, what HIV and AIDS stand for and the four stages of HIV. They will then explore what some of our world leaders have to say about HIV and look at some real life cases.
