Disciplinary Literacy resource/task describing Newton’s Laws of motion. Answers provided. Supplied as editable powerpoint file (.ppt) and PDF, complete with answer slides.
This is a reading comprehension task (around an A4 page) featuring a short passage describing Newton’s Laws and giving examples of when they apply, followed by a definition task for the tier 3 vocabulary introduced, and 10 ramped recall and application questions on page 2.
This resource is designed to match the AQA Combined Science and single science Physics specification for the Forces topic (P5). It could be used to either introduce Newton’s Laws of motion early in the topic, or later for consolidation, revision and retrieval. The resource easily be adapted to other exam boards (such as Edexcel) and International curriculum of other countries.
I would recommend guiding the students to read through once independently, then read through aloud to promote oracy, then allowing students to answer questions.
