Fun and engaging science videos database

(0)
This Excel spreadsheet contains links to 48 fun and engaging science videos that are hosted on YouTube. These may be used for countdown timers, engaging starters or as instructional videos to accompany a main lesson activity. The spreadsheet can searched using a keyword for the topic that you are interested in. I have all of these downloaded to a hard drive (approximately 3GB of data) and am happy to make copies of these so please get in touch using my TES inbox.

This is a worksheet that encourages students to make their own classification for invertebrates with the beginning of a classification tree provided at the bottom of the page.
Group 2 metal compound reactions - AS Chemistry
rs007rs007

Group 2 metal compound reactions - AS Chemistry

(7)
This is an AS Chemistry lesson on the group 2 metal compounds and their reactivity and solubility at grades C to A. For grade C students write symbol equations. Note that the hydroxides and sulphates show opposite trends in solubility. For grade B they consider the aluminium sulphate Camelford water poisoning in Cornwall and write ionic equations. Note that all ions are aqueous and that Barium chloride and aluminium sulphate are soluble compounds. For grade A they analyse different data and use this to explain trends in solubility of group 2 compounds. For an engaging starter you could show the reaction of potassium with water and ask students to predict how the reactivity of group 2 metals would be different (less owing to increased charge density and 2 ionisation energies to make the ion). Multiples - lowest common multiple

Multiples - lowest common multiple

(8)
This is a lesson plan for multiples to be taught to year 7. The learning objective slide aids assessment for learning and is printed to be stuck in student books. Many interesting real life applications for the lowest common multiple are used to stimulate and develop students learning. Feedback to my TES inbox please.
AS Chemistry - equilibrium

AS Chemistry - equilibrium

(5)
This is a lesson on equilibrium for AS chemistry. There are lesson grades C to A with clear AFL tasks including a literacy-based Just a Minute plenary. There is an exam focus throughout with the grade A task getting students to apply their understanding to new reactions. The video is the TED Ed Daniel Dulek video on the Haber Process. Please rate this resource and leave feedback.
Elements and compounds revision crossword

Elements and compounds revision crossword

(1)
This covers naming of compounds (e.g. iron chloride) and some challenge questions such as where the heavier elements are made (supernova). Please rate this resource and leave feedback.
Atomic structure GCSE C1.1 revision flashcards x16

Atomic structure GCSE C1.1 revision flashcards x16

(3)
This is a set of 16 flashcards with questions and answers that are printed double sided. When printed this way the questions and answers align correctly. They cover: atomic structure, electron configuration, counting atoms and balancing equations. These have been designed for AQA C1.1 but would suit all exam boards. There are 8 challenging questions that will stretch the most able up to A grade. Please rate this resource and leave feedback.
Making predictions lesson plan

Making predictions lesson plan

(3)
This is a lesson that was designed for and taught to year 7. It can be extended to 2 lessons by getting students to collect data in the first lesson and check the validity of their predictions in the 2nd lesson. Some of the slides can printed as 6 or 2 slide handouts to serve as worksheets or writing frames (e.g. learning objectives, table). Feedback to rowan.savage@hotmail.com.
Polymerisation GCSE
rs007rs007

Polymerisation GCSE

(3)
This is an action packed lesson on polymerisation. The starter is a dingbat that is shown whilst students listen to music to help them. Part 1 is where students make ethene then link to make polythene using molymods. Part 2 is where students write down the formula of a polymer, write that on post its then stick it posters. Part 3 is where students design a cheese rolling suit using information about polymers. The plenary is a 6 mark question on their design that brings the lesson together. These are activities for a fun and potentially outstanding lesson. Please leave feedback.
Sound homework project for peer teaching
rs007rs007

Sound homework project for peer teaching

(1)
This is a homework project with 2 optional extension tasks where students research what hearing is. This homework is set at least a week in advance and is used as the basis for a peer teaching lesson which is guided (facilitated) by the teacher. Students may produce a written textbook page or podcast.
Mole calculations personal learning checklist

Mole calculations personal learning checklist

(3)
This is a personal learning checklist created for AS chemistry to check understanding of mole calculations. A comprehensive list of AS mole calculations is provided. Students identify what they can do after a lesson or homework as they progress through a topic. At the end both the student and teacher sign to say that the student can complete do these tasks. This is excellent for making sure students thoroughly understand a topic. Please rate and leave feedback.
Bread making yeast respiration ppt

Bread making yeast respiration ppt

(2)
This ppt forms the basis of a lesson on respiration - containing data on how temperature affects yeast respiration. The photo can be used as an image prompt to get students thinking about what they need to make break. An older PowerPoint ppt format has been added.
Behaviour for learning student checklist
rs007rs007

Behaviour for learning student checklist

(7)
The aim of this ticklist is to help students stay focused and help teachers highlight what is going well as the lesson progresses. Each day one lesson is selected to use this ticklist in - starting with subjects where the student has been particularly poorly focused. This should work particularly well for students such as those who are autistic who need to visualise their behaviour. The updated version leaves space for positive comments to be made in the lesson. This resource can be given to the student by teachers, their tutors or support staff. Feedback to my TES inbox please.

(4)
This is a resource for the OCR GCSE Gateway B3 module designed for an additional class up to grades A and without the challenge expected for triple science. There is a student gap fill for all parts of the module (a copy of the spec is attached for reference - pages 52 to 67). Also included is a heart diagram with labels and 20 marks of exam questions based on respiration and parts of the cell (taken from AQA but relevant to the OCR spec). I will add further revision resources in Easter 2014.

This is a lesson on sodium chloride electrolysis designed for a triple set (top set) GCSE science group following the OCR Gateway science specification (C2H). The electrolysis is shown as a demo with students having previously carried out their own copper sulphate electrolysis practical. The lesson is designed to be fast paced with plenty of stretch and challenge as befits this set with students aiming for A* grades. Slides 5 (labelling) and 18 (extension activity) can be printed 6 slides per A4. Feedback to my TES inbox please.

These is a set of resources that I developed for my GCSE and A level students to help them structure their revision. This will help to reduce stress levels and my improve exam performance. Each day of the week is broken down into seven sections. These could be seven hours or seven half hours, depending on how much time the student wants to spend revising in one go. Revision tips are provided at the bottom of the calendar. A example revision schedule is provided for students to have a look at.
