This is a 15-20 minute assembly on the role of an MP. It has some specific information about Birmingham but this can easily be adapted to include your own MP by following the website and instructions in the Notes section. This was originally a Year 10 Citizenship tutor time session but could easily be lengthened to last a whole lesson. It covers the definition of an MP, their role and tasks, the importance of democracy, the structure of parliament, what issues young people may be struggling with today and an introduction to ‘Make Your Mark 2022’ with the Youth Parliament. Students reacted very well to this presentation. It fits into the PSHE or Citizenship curriculums or can be used for a KS3, KS4 or KS5 (Ages 11-18 Years 7-13) assembly or whole school session on Fundamental British Values.

This lesson is for KS3 or KS4 and introduces the main beliefs of Sikhism and the life of Guru Nanak including the River Miracle. There is also a worksheet to accompany the lesson. This is a 90 minute lesson but can be shortened easily.

This is a worksheet that contains the six main religious symbols, their places of worship and their symbols. It can be used for pupils to cut out, match up and stick in their books, can be printed on card to become a reusable match up starter activity or it can be used for display or creative work purposes. This is suitable for KS1-KS4 (5 - 18 years old) and can be used in tutor time as part of the cultural diversity part of the PSHE programme or as part of an Religious Education or Citizenship lesson. This is a 10-15 minute assembly about World Hunger Day, specifically in 2022 but could easily be adapted for other years. This is a 15 minute session about the Plymouth attack in August 2021. It sums up what happened and introduces what the term incel means and what they believe. It has a downloaded news clip and discussion activities about gun laws. It also connects with Fundamental British Values and the UN Rights of a Child. There is no written activities, it was originally produced for a Citizenship tutor time session in September with KS3 - KS5 (Ages 11-18 Yrs 7-13). This is suitable for a whole school secondary audience as an introduction to incel culture and the tragic event in Plymouth over the Summer holidays.

This is a full lesson on an introduction to Hinduism covering their beliefs in god, festivals, beliefs, symbols, temple, worship etc. It includes a couple of short video clips and some discussion and written questions for students to complete. It has some extension tasks and is suitable for use in the classroom with no photocopying required. It is suitable for KS2, KS3 and KS4 (Ages 11-18) and takes an introductory look at one of the world’s most popular religions.

This is a 60-90 minute lesson for RE, Citizenship, SMSC, FBV or PSHE. It covers what MPs do, why students should write to them and outlines how to write an effective letter. This lesson belonged to a topic of Protest and this ends the topic with students writing their own letter of protest to their MP about something they feel is important in their local area. Suggested topics are given, written and discussion tasks included, a youtube clip that is downloaded that will never disappear and a section on emotive language and why this is important in letters of protest to MPs. There is a handout that accompanies the lesson to show students a model letter and allow them to have the selection of emotive language features in front of them while they write the letter. You will need to change the school address and MP’s details in the letter and the powerpoint to make it totally relevant for your students. This contributes to Citizenship education and was originally an RE lesson which was very well received by both the MP and the students. It is suitable for KS3 - KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13) and was originally a Year 9 lesson in the topic of Protest.

This is a 10-15 minute assembly about the recent news stories about racism in cricket focusing on the importance of thinking before posting on social media. it is suitable for all year groups from Year 6 - Year 13 (KS2, KS3, KS4, KS5, Ages 10-18) and can be used for an assembly, tutor time session, whole school, PSHE or Citizenship session. It can easily be lengthened by changing the discussion activities to written ones for it to last a whole lesson. There are two short youtube clip which are downloaded so they will never disappear. It is narrated but you can delete this by clicking on the icon and pressing delete. It covers: what the recent news stories are regarding cricket (mentioning Azeem Rafiq & Tim Paine), why we should be wary of what we post on social media or send in messages, how to control your digital footprint, how your future can be affected by your actions on social media as a child or young adult. It also shows the connection with a slide on Fundamental British Values, the UN Rights of a Child and a point of Reflection. There are links to the news and other extension activities looking at quotes which teachers can use or students can have as an extension activity on an online platform or for homework. This was originally designed as a citizenship tutor time session for KS3, KS4 and KS5 for November - December 2021.

This is a 60-90 minute lesson about social action. It is in an RE & Citizenship scheme of work exploring different ways people help the community. It focuses on Christianity and the work of food banks and street pastors. This session can also help towards the AQA Religious Studies A GCSE in the Christian Practices paper but does not have any specific exam focus. It includes: Picture Analysis of a food bank The Parable of the Sheep & Goats Teachings of the Parable of the Sheep & Goats An introduction to street pastors 2 video clips about street pastors (downloaded so they will never disappear) An introduction to food banks 2 videos about food banks (downloaded so they will never disappear) An activity to design their own organisation combining street pastors and food banks True and false quiz for a plenary task Extension tasks with a discussion and extra video links This lesson is fully narrated although this can easily be changed by deleting the icon on each slide if you would prefer it not narrated. This session can easily be lengthened or shortened to last for a shorter or longer amount of time. Students reacted very well to this presentation.
