An observation lesson with my Year 7 students introducing them into Crime in London. The ‘Do Now’ task is to get students to think of the real-life knowledge of crime. The main task is to complete a choropleth map of crime in London where students are given data to complete this by representing this by colouring in the map which is included.

This lesson goes through the various social, economic and environmental reasons why Haiti is seen as a low income country (LIC). There are many exercises within this PowerPoint which is printable and it is very much a student orientated lesson with 5 exercises with information given to aid students throughout with facts and figures. The lesson ends with homework which is to research why Haiti is poor.

A lesson that teaches students how to do map grid references. in order to make it more accessible to students, the lesson has ‘The Simpsons’ theme where students have to locate characters such as Bart, Lisa etc on the PowerPoint

This lesson teaches students about Europe in terms of location, cities and also rivers through multiple exercises. There is also a quiz where students have to guess the European country. This can be done with an aided map in the students’ diary depending on the group. There are also printable maps where students can write the location of Europe on both a ‘Global Scale’ and ‘Regional Scale’.

An introduction to Birdsong where there are several exercises to give students a context of the novel.

This PowerPoint in an introduction to Lord Byron’s ‘When We Two Parted’. The lesson poses questions to students in terms of poetic techniques and also what message the poet is trying to portray. It then relates back to the theme of love and relationships before a plenary.

This lesson covers all of Act 1 Scene 3 where both Macbeth and Banquo meet the Three Witches. The onus of this lesson is to show students the start of Macbeth’s ambition. Students are asked to ‘put themselves in the shoes’ of both Macbeth and Banquo. They then answer a series of questions before analysing small extracts that show Macbeth’s internal struggle and also ambition.

This PowerPoint is an exam revision PowerPoint for development. It goes through important definitions within development and also has some exercises for students.

This lesson focuses on Stave one of ‘A Christmas Carol’. The lesson gives students awareness of the many techniques uses such as pathetic fallacy to create such an atmosphere. The lesson starts with the students’ first impression of Scrooge by analysing an extract describing Scrooge. It also makes students aware of such things as plot, character relationships and dialogue etc.

This PowerPoint goes through dramatic techniques in Hamlet. It analyzes many techniques such as imagery, word play, soliloquies amongst others.

An English Language Paper 2 Non Fiction Booklet which can be used for revision or for lessons. There are 6 articles with 20 questions and also a long question focusing on the writers’ opinions and perspectives. There is also an aswer booklet for the 120 questions.

This PowerPoint is structured with a ‘Do Now’ which recalls students prior knowledge from poetic devices and other questions. It then gives background to the poet before getting students to think about the title and context. The students are then asked to write what the main themes of the poem are. There is a hinge question which leads to a debate as all answers are similar but have minor differences to show what a dramatic monologue is.

This PowerPoint introduces students to the context behind the poem wounds and also the poet. The students complete a ‘Do Now’ and then assess their prior knowledge of Northern Ireland which then leads into discussion. They are given a background to the poet before observing the poem after completing a mini task relating to the title. There is also a YouTube video relating to Bloody Sunday which gives students a visual before completing a task on their first impressions of the poem. This is the first lesson from two where the poem will be analysed in detail-language and structure. *NB: To make this more student friendly, the comment on the Pope was removed-this can be changed at your own discretion.

This PowerPoint starts with a re-cap on context from Northern Ireland. It then gives students information on the many layers within the poem and also what Longley’s main message is. The students are then asked to answer questions on the poem-these are displayed within the PowerPoint and leads to discussion. Before moving to a diary entry, students are asked to choose a statement. This is to assess the students understanding of the poem before moving forward. The lesson finishes with a plenary to assess students learning. This is lesson two of Longley’s poem Wounds. The first is relating to context.

This Lesson focuses on students’ first impressions of Lennie within Of Mice and Men. It will be clear to students that appearances are deceiving with Steinbecks use of language and the reality of Lennie’s character. This lesson was an observation lesson for performance management to a group of Year 7 students who are studying Gothic Literature. This lesson can also be used within a creative writing unit. The lesson is structured in a way where students are given awareness of the impact of short and long sentences.
