This lesson teaches students about Europe in terms of location, cities and also rivers through multiple exercises. There is also a quiz where students have to guess the European country. This can be done with an aided map in the students’ diary depending on the group. There are also printable maps where students can write the location of Europe on both a ‘Global Scale’ and ‘Regional Scale’.

This lesson explores the marriage of Romeo and Juliet at the end of Act 2 Scene 2. There is an extract exercise included where students explorer the connotations and Juliet’s view on love. Also a paired exercise for Romeo’s and Friar’s contrasting attitudes in Act 2 Scene 3.

An introduction to Birdsong where there are several exercises to give students a context of the novel.

This PowerPoint shows students the juxtapositioning of both King Duncan and Lady Macbeth in comparison to how a king and a woman should be viewed in society. Through a series of tasks that get students thinking of each character, only to find Shakespeare portrays them in a different way. This allows students to understand why both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth deceived King Duncan.

This lesson analyses the poetic techniques used withing Singh Song. The lesson focuses on word play, tone and the context of the poet amongst others. It also asks students to take ownership and analyse the poem and asks students several questions throughout.

This lesson covers all of Act 1 Scene 3 where both Macbeth and Banquo meet the Three Witches. The onus of this lesson is to show students the start of Macbeth’s ambition. Students are asked to ‘put themselves in the shoes’ of both Macbeth and Banquo. They then answer a series of questions before analysing small extracts that show Macbeth’s internal struggle and also ambition.

This lesson was an observation lesson for performance management to a group of Year 7 students who are studying Gothic Literature. This lesson can also be used within a creative writing unit. The lesson is structured in a way where students are given awareness of the impact of short and long sentences. There are also multiple hinge questions and plenaries to assess the learning before completing the final task which is then peer assessed.

This PowerPoint starts with a re-cap on context from Northern Ireland. It then gives students information on the many layers within the poem and also what Longley’s main message is. The students are then asked to answer questions on the poem-these are displayed within the PowerPoint and leads to discussion. Before moving to a diary entry, students are asked to choose a statement. This is to assess the students understanding of the poem before moving forward. The lesson finishes with a plenary to assess students learning. This is lesson two of Longley’s poem Wounds. The first is relating to context.

A PowerPoint resource for Seamus Heaney's Blackberry-Picking. The poem is broken into small pieces and explained with key words underlined with several questions posed to students. The meaning of certain phrases in the poem is also explored for example Heaney's personification of the blackberries.

A PowerPoint that I made for my lower ability Year 10 GCSE group. There is a matching activity within the PowerPoint where students use the pictures to find the line or lines of the poem that relates to the picture. There are also opportunities to have your own questions depending on your group and an opportunity for students to practice their presentation skills.

This resource was used as part of a lesson observation with a lower set. The resource includes a differentiated starter task and also two main tasks where students annotate the scene using prompts. This is to be done in pairs. It also has a plenary. The main outcome of this lesson is to show how the different social classes influences The Policeman’s treatment of both Ms Johnstone and Mr Lyons.

An observation lesson with my Year 7 students introducing them into Crime in London. The ‘Do Now’ task is to get students to think of the real-life knowledge of crime. The main task is to complete a choropleth map of crime in London where students are given data to complete this by representing this by colouring in the map which is included.
