Year 5 Negative Numbers - Plan, LI's and resources

(0)
An initial wander into the world of negative numbers for year 5. I have included the first day's plan for three sets, the learning intention with 'I can' statements and 11 worksheets that get progressively harder. (The hardest sheets have answers too.) This day's work was written for an average year 5 cohort, ranging from A.R.E. year 3 to A.R.E. year 5. The initial set has negative numbers in context with number lines to support, the second set has more abstract calculations branching into reasoning at the higher end and the third set has very complex abstract calculations such as 4 - (-6)-(-8).

A spread sheet with four tabs - the first 100 HFWs, the next 200 HFWs, new statutory spelling list for years 3&4 and new statutory spelling list for years 5&6. Formatted to have 30 names sideways across the top so you can tick off the spellings given/learned/used etc. Only made it for my own use really but figured I may as well share - save someone 10 minutes!

Medium Term plan - Mini Science Investigations.

After discovering my new class had poor investigation skills, I set up an investigation to do every week. You'll need to do your own risk assessment (especially for the slime - I got in a science PGCE student to help!) but mostly is silly fun with science to get them excited and making predictions. There's also an assessment sheet which I gave to all the adult helpers to mark when any child used any of the skills. (I would recommend a ratio of 1:5 for the gathering of evidence and supporting the overall process)

Guided Reading Questions

(1)
This contains an A4 page with 3 or 4 questions for every chapter of 'The Secret Mountain&' By Enid Blyton, except for the last four chapters that have blank pages for the children to use their own ideas and prove they have developed an understanding of different ways of showing you&';ve read a text! The book I used is a dual edition 'Secrets: The Secret Mountain & The Secret of Kilimooin&'. If you use a different version of the book you may need to change the page numbers in the headings. Good for more able younger readers. All the questions are linked to AFs.

Planning Story Problems - Video Clips

Start by planning the problem effectively and then you’re more likely to have a great story. Ten clips to show just the main problem of the movies they’re from. To support children’s story writing planning - help them to unpick what a problem can be and how to identify what will help them solve it. The little mermaid 2) Frozen 3) Finding Nemo 4) Tangled 5) Monsters Inc. 6) Aladdin 7) Toy Story 8) Beauty and the Beast 9) Storks 10) Paddington. I do not own the copyright for any of these clips, merely the combination and key questions between.

Rising Stars Year 6 Reading Comprehension 'walk-through' FICTION

(1)
Only appropriate to use if your school uses the Rising Stars comprehension books for year 6. I have scanned in each of the texts and questions to guide the children through the comprehension. Each text has a thesaurus challenge which supports children’s vocabulary aquisition. All PowerPoints have the answers on the last slide so the work can be marked. I anticipate each Powerpoint will take approximately half an hour to run through.
