THIS WAS DESIGNED FOR SUMMER 2022 This is some source based activities building towards planning the 12 mark essay. Summer 2022 CIE History Paper 2 is on Soviet Control of Eastern Europe, so this is based on the November 2017 questions. Easily editable, and compatable with online, in class or blended learning. I would recommend using this with future cohorts as prep for paper 2. For future papers you could just edit the sources on past papers and keep the tasks the same.

I took a resource from here and made it into a coherent lesson. The videos are in the notes , thought they aren’t be any means essential. This is pretty simple. I would use this at the start of Yr 7, but could probably be used at KS2.

This lesson introduces the key concepts of The Cold War through the Chess match between Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky. Activities are integrated into the PPT and on seperate sheets. Cut the Capitalism and Communism sheet in half. The song is “Rook House for Bobby” by I Like Trains. Anyone who likes getting relatively obscure independent post rock bands into their lessons should definitely enjoy this. I have taken some resources here and made them suitable for online learning. You will need to convert them to the appropriate format. They can also be used for classroom learning as, when and if we ever return to normal. Two lessons here, although only one document to work through. The PPT is focused on Lesson 1, which mainly focuses on the events of the Spanish Civil War itself. It has a cross curricular link with Art and Music and there is a Theory of Knowledge style question as the plenary. Lesson 2 is the second half of the document. This is a literacy mat designed for Humanities classes. It focuses on general skills, command terms, key terminology etc. The actual content is on the 2nd slide. It is particularly useful for any EAL students, or SEN student. It is designed to be one slide PPT slide, which you can print off and then laminate.

This is a full lesson designed for online learning on Hannibal and his attempted invasion of Rome. I rushed through this in one lesson with homework, but could be stretched out to two. Video links are in the notes of the PPT.

This is a full lesson designed for online learning on the Saar Plebiscite in 1935. I kind of screwed up when teaching this and left it until the end of unit, but it worked out quite well in the sense that the students had much greater contextual awareness. Just cut and paste the venn diagram onto a seperate document. Links are in comments for the YouTube videos.

This is a lesson designed for both online and in-class learning. The lesson is highly structured, with scaffolding and modelling to support EAL students as well as across the ability range. The lesson is easily adaptable to fit the needs of your class. I designed with this an entirely EAL, mixed ability Year 9/Grade 8 class in mind.

This is a lesson designed for both online and in-class learning which looks at the German reaction to the Treaty of Versailles through two cartoon sources. It is fully scaffolded and all tasks are designed with the EAL student in mind. This was designed with my Year 8/Grade 7 class in mind, but could be used in higher age groups. A full lesson designed for online learning and in class learning comparing Ancient Rome to Ancient Egypt. This presupposes that Ancient Egypt was taught before Rome. The lessons are easily adaptable, and contain full scaffolding and modelling. Designed for the end of Grade 6/Year 7, but can be used and adapted for higher or lower.

This is a single lesson with some basic activities and questions to complete which lays the grounds for the events of the Cuban Revolution. Links to videos in the notes. If I had a decent sized class I would do the last task as like a Jamboard or something.

All material is included, there is no need for a textbook or any other resources to assist with this lesson. There are a range of tasks including source analysis and exam practice. All told, there are six activities for students to complete, along with plenty of extension, conceptual and discussion questions integrated. Designed for IGCSE Depth Study Russia 1905-1941 but can also be adapted for other curricula. This lesson is easily adaptable and editable. However, it is also good to go as soon as you download it. This is a very simple lesson which looks at the collapse of Communism across Eastern Europe. Students are encouraged to think thematically and looks for similarities and differences across the different regimes. Tasks are fully structured and scaffolded with conceptual questions added in. This is designed as the last lesson to be taught in the Paper 2 Cold War Unit so students should be expected to introduce background knowledge into this (e.g. Solidarity in Poland, Reforms in the Soviet Union). There are five tasks to complete, along with an essay where I have included a marking proforma and a planning sheet.
