Understanding Fractions 10 different ways

This resource encourages pupils to have a wider understanding of fractions and the different situations they describe - Words, Diagrams, Decimals, Ratios, Words & Numbers, Facts, Percentage, Scale, Objects and the Fraction itself!

The imagined use of this Excel sheet is that a fraction is given to (or chosen by) the student and then the student shows the fraction in its 9 other forms.

This is best done by working on a printed copy of the Excel worksheet. However, the examples provided show that ICT capable pupils can complete the sheet by using picture tools in Excel and searching online.

The printable sheet is provided both in colour and in black-and-white. There is also a basic black-and-white version which does not include ratios.

The resource can be used to give pupils a wide understanding of where fractions can appear. It can be used for classwork, homework, poster work and is aimed at lower to middle ability KS2, KS3 maths.
