A study and investigation into the use and history of the number zero. Fun facts about zero. Split class into teams. There is a team discussion about zero and a fun quiz at the end about zero. The winning team is the one who scores closest to zero. Plus 1 for a correct answer and minus 1 for an incorrect answer. So a really smart team will realise they need to get 6 questions correct and 6 questions wrong on purpose to score zero!

Split class into Teamz and give each Team a can of Beanz and the activity worksheet. The worksheet is editable so you can adjust it to the specific can of Heinz beans you use. [Other beans brands are available.]

Get a volunteer student to secretly write down a number between 1 and 50. Other students take it in turns to guess the secret number. When you click on each number it will reveal a question/clue to the number which the volunteer needs to answer honestly. Whoever guesses the number correctly gets to choose the next number. Makes a great KS3 plenary / wind-down activity.

A fun (end of term?) group work activity. Students to split into groups of 2-4 to create their own Algebra (or other maths topic) Board Game. Can be run over 2 or 3 one hour lessons with a chance to play and judge the best game by peer review. (Includes Hall of Fame of some games created by other classes and some links to inspirational YouTube videos.)
