Please find one of four light-relief SPAG resource sheets (last thing FridayPM!) to reinforce the different grammatical vocabulary. My Yr 6s have been put ‘through the mill’ with countless boring exercises this year! I started using these sheets recently and have been besieged by the children to produce some more! So I’ve decided to sell them with all proceeds to the ‘Mozambique and District Disaster Fund’.

We are encouraged to use "Golden Time" usefully and creatively. As the , so-called, "spag expert, in our large primary, the other class teachers look to me to provide a fun activity occasionally. Please find my latest offering which did go down well with all three Y6 classes....it isn't differentiated in any way and the weaker readers were stumped by some of the vocabulary!!

25 SPAG words, for Yr6, to be learned by Christmas. A double lesson’s worth of light relief worksheets just before Christmas. It kept my children enthralled for 90 minutes! I am charging minimum rate and will donate all proceeds to Red Nose Day on March 12th 2019.

These are primarily ,Year 6 Reading and S.P.A.G. revision practice papers....I am a marking team leader for KS2 English SATs and an intervention booster teacher in several schools....I realise the need for grammar teaching and practice but the SAT exam format leaves a lot to be desired....in these papers I've hoped to introduce some variety to the practice! Please excuse the typing inadequacies and layout!!! Answers will follow shortly! This spag practice is only to add variety !

SPAG practice for Y6 (Light relief!!)

In a recent "Golden Time" session, I gave my current Y6s this fun s.p.a.g. task to do. I never heard a sound for a good 30 minutes and they proudly showed me their results. They were so used to the boring grammar exercises, ( so necessary for the weaker ones to get to know all the spag terminology!) in the Literacy Hour that these were a welcome change!

Being an intervention teacher in several schools to help improve SAT results, I have been instructed, in the main, to do practice test papers. This boring practice certainly does produce results, and in Spag in particular, numerous level 5s! However, occasionally I "throw" in a distraction like this one, and although still highly grammatically focused, the Y6s do respond positively....hope your children will enjoy it! Many apologies for the hand written script....my typing skills aren't up to it!

This resource is just to give the poor Y6s a break from the weekly grammar tests! I do apologise for the typing and primitive lay-out of the text and questions......I am well before the computer era.....I was King of the Banda!!!

I gave this activity during "Golden Time" as a relief from the usual "cramming" diet in the Literacy Hour! I was surprised by their reaction....total silence for a good half hour and proud of their colouring!! I presume their grammar learning was reinforced?
PS. I came across 2 new (to me!) spag words in a practice test this week! They were" an implied relative pronoun" and an "uncountable noun"

In an attempt to bring just a little interesting relief to the boring grammar-type work we have to do in year 6, I recently came across this report from an Australian newspaper; I have adapted it and made numerous errors for the children to correct. I do apologise for my juvenile typing and layout......I'm from the pre-computer era!!

S.P.A.G. revision to break the monotony!!

About to enter my 4th year of "cramming " grammar for the SAT exam, I'm fully convinced that the only way to get the "average" Y6 pupil to the required mark is to give them literally masses of repetitive practice of the 40+ grammatical terms......this does work as my results prove, BUT how boring for the poor souls!!......This resource is purely an effort to " sugar the pill".......I do apologise for the handwritten resources......my typing skills are non-existent, sorry!

S.P.A.G. (Grammar) Revision Y6. ( Your turn to be teacher !!)

This replicates the 2017 Grammar S.A.T. paper....but to add a little bit of variety for the hard-pressed Y6s, I've had them mark the answers.( which I did with a few obvious errors!).....they then had to mark them, and, after a bit of complicated geometric design, complete yet again a s.p.a.g exercise! I can honestly say, that towards the end of last term, on a wet Friday pm which included "Golden Time", there wasn't a sound for a good hour or more as they completed all 3 tasks! ( I kid you not!.....that's why I'm sharing it!!) I personally ,would provide the children with ready prepared card "arrow-heads."...saves a lot of time!!!

S.p.a.g. Practice in a Story for Y6s

Once again, to vary the children's diet of grammar revision, I've used a 1,000 word story and asked 60 spag questions on the content.....It only includes the grammatical vocabulary which I'll concentrate on with My Y6s for the first term!.....I have made several deliberate spelling and grammar errors in the story......I'd expect my HA and MA groups to do this work, but not the LA.......don't blame me for the story!!!!it's one I pinched from an American exchange teacher , a few years ago!

I do genuinely feel sorry for the Year 6s, especially those at mid-level ability.....to remember all these varied grammatical terms must be difficult.....I can see no real alternative than to repeat and repeat until they have been learnt.....it's no different to learning their tables! My problem has been to try and make the repetition more bearable! I've tried the enclosed test and they received it quite well! I believe a wet Friday afternoon would be a suitable time for it!!!! Apologies for the hand-written pages-my computer skills are very limited!

At our Primary school, we are encouraged to make "Golden Time" different but instructive. As the, "so-called" spag expert (?) in Year 6, I'm called on occasionally to provide a bit of light relief for the 3xY6 classes. Please forgive the handwritten activity, but my computer skills are non-existent....nevertheless, the children did produce good results.....we thought we'd share them with you!

Practice Spag. Y6 (especially downgraded for "Golden Time")

This is the third week running I've provided our 3xY6 classes with a little light relief from the normal grammar lesson....we are under orders from" on high" to make the Golden Time more structured, yet suitable for last half hour on Friday afternoon!! This is my answer, and I do have to say the hand-written worksheets have proven popular with the children....( Yes. peer marking is the norm!!!!!)
