Do you find that your students make similar errors regularly, despite having taught capital letters, past and present tense and commas within an inch of their life? I designed this resource that I have used in class over a 10 day period as a starter and as time went on, I was able to see that students were improving their application of correct grammar. Students were able to work independently and in pairs to complete tasks. They worked in their exercise books and mini whiteboards to do the tasks. I added extension activities for students who had finished to encourage creativity and it worked great. I hope you find that it works for you too! This was also great for EAL learners.

This is a starter I have used multiple times over the year with my year 11 to get them to work with key verbs across all units of the GCSE course.

Initally students have the first 3 boxes which cover the past, present and future in Spanish and they have to translate into English (easier). The second 3 boxes have to be translated into Spanish (harder). They are, however, the same verbs.

I gave these to my students on alternate weeks and by the end of the course before their exams, students were using the knowledge they got from this activity in their writings and speakings well.
