Earth and Space (Science) Year 5 Plan and Resources

Earth and Space plan, should last approx. 6 weeks, covering objectives on the NC as well as a range of working scientifically objectives The plan is fully differentiated for each lesson. Originally planned for Year 5 however could be adapted for other year groups. Also included are all relevant resources.

Week 1 - Concept cartoon assessment- prior knowledge

Week 2 - To describe the sun, Earth and moon as approximately spherical bodies.
To use scientific evidence that has been used to support or refute ideas or arguments

Week 3 - To describe the movement of the Earth and other planets relative to the sun in the solar system.
To describe the Sun, Earth and Moon as approximately spherical bodies.
To take measurements, using a range of equipment, with increasing accuracy and precision, taking repeat readings when appropriate

Week 4 - To describe the movement of the Earth and other planets relative to the sun in the solar system.
To describe the Sun, Earth and Moon as approximately spherical bodies.
To record data of increasing complexity using tables, scatter graphs, bar and line graphs

Week 5 - To use the idea of the Earth’s rotation to explain day and night and the apparent movement of the sun across the sky

Week 6 - Repetition of concept cartoon for assessment purposes
