KS1 History Lesson: How did the Fire Start?

A KS1 history lesson which teaches children about the Great Fire of London and how it started. Within this lesson children will learn how the Great Fire started on Pudding Lane in Thomas Farriner’s bakery. This lesson will ask the children to act as historical detectives and work out the clues as to why they think the bakery was the cause of the fire. Children will link their prior knowledge of London, the fact it was overcrowded and buildings were made out of wood, to draw conclusions to the start of the fire.

This resource is a powerpoint presentation and gives hints/clues as to why people believed that the fire started on Pudding Lane in a fun and engaging way. Alongside the powerpoint presentation is a differentiated worksheet which children have to complete to write down what caused the fire. This worksheet is also differentiated to include colourful semantics as a word mat to help support all learners.

How I use this resource: This resource is a powerpoint which is shared at the front of the class with the children. The worksheet can be completed in small groups or completed whole class.
