13-page self-marking Spanish Tenses Booklet covering: present, preterite, imperfect, present and imperfect of ‘soler’ + infinitive, near future, simple future, conditional and present continuous tenses in a self-explanatory way. Includes both regular endings for conjugation as well as frequently used irregular verbs and stems.
Booklet comes with a confidence-check table at beginning and end so students can make notes on what each tense translates to in English / when it is used / how it is formed (retrieval practice / self-assessment prior to working through the booklet, as well as at the end to consolidate and measure any progress made in recall by having students summarise the key points).
Each page covers frequently used time phrases in that tense, conjugation tables (support tables with populated regular and irregular endings for that tense as well as blank tables students must fill out, sorting the information), then independent practice either through fluency exercises with repeated conjugation of regular verbs, or translation of conjugated verbs/sentences in English, or paragraphs using high-frequency language as would be seen in GCSE exams, following one of the five key Themes. Opportunity for extended writing practice offered at the end of the booklet.
Self-marking as translations to the paragraphs appear as inverted text for students to check their translations against, and as the booklet is designed for students with very limited knowledge (advisable to have explained previously to students what conjugation is, even if they are confused on the topic and do not know the endings) to be able to work through, read and summarise the information in the booklet, then apply it. Booklet designed for low prior-attaining Foundation GCSE students, however has been used successfully as a revision resource including for higher-attaining GCSE students and native speakers who need to improve their ability to name and recognise each tense, in order to increase the complexity of their language.
Time phrases include some set phrases in the present and imperfect subjunctive for students to use together with the relevant tense (for example, conditional).
