This is an exciting revision board game designed to help kids practice vocabulary on the topic of Free time. I’ve used this type of game successfully with my Y7s and they loved a bit of healthy competition amongst their classmates.
This is also an amazing activity to practice pronunciation as well as get students working with others and be independent. Since the referee holds all the answers you can walk around the room and listen to the students using the TL as well as take a break if you need to. I’m a fan of anything that gets the kids working on their own whilst having some fun too. So, please enjoy and any feedback would be appreciated! I’m looking to create a game for each topic at KS3 so there is more to come!
Instructions:
The game should be played in groups of 4-5 with one person being the referee.
Each group gets a copy of the game and the referee gets a copy of the answers, which nobody else should see!
You will need a dice so players can move through the game. One dice per group should be enough.
The younger player goes first and starts the game .
The first player to pass the finish line wins.
Players cannot advance if they cannot translate the sentences they have fallen onto in the opposite language. They will have to stay in the same place if their answer doesn´t match the referees answer sheet and wait for another turn until they roll the dice again and hopefully get a different number.
The referee is allowed to give small hints if the person is struggling (e.g. It starts with the letter T…).
The game can last up to 30 minutes and is a great way for students to practice the vocabulary learnt.
*** I usually give my students a small piece of paper in the shape of a square to use as a token and move along in the game. I make them write their initials on the square so if they are the same colour they don’t get mixed up with the others.
