Have you ever wondered why the days are so long in the summer and so short in the winter? The length changes throughout the year. Around June 20th or 21st, we experience what’s known as ‘The Summer Solstice’, which is the longest day of the year.

People from many cultures have held summer solstice celebrations for thousands of years. Summer is a time to celebrate renewal, life, fertility and the potential for a good harvest. It’s been celebrated with outdoor feasts, festivals, singing, dancing, and bonfires.

This age-appropriate assembly aims to;
• Explain the science behind our longest day
• Present a number of traditions and customs surrounding the summer solstice.

• Summer-related prayer.
