First lesson for low ability beginners group on clothing.
Revision of colours, presentation of vocab, beat the teacher repetition game, reading and writing task, true or false plenary (did this as thumbs up/down).
Reading task aimed at a middle ability Y8 group who have been doing Spanish once per week since September but are in their 2nd year learning French.
In the topic of house/home, this was their 2nd lesson on infinitives so I threw this at them as a bit of a challenge.
Could be suitable for cover work.
1) Recognise and underline food items - grammar, recognising nouns.
2) True or false.
3) Match pictures to countries.
Reference material for high ability KS4 groups.
I am giving this to my groups quite early on and teaching them to use the verb tables in the middle of the dictionary.
So whilst at the moment they haven't covered the imperfect or conditional in much detail (and haven't done the A* tenses at all) some should be able to use their initiative and go beyond what they have been taught, with this guide to help them.
Lesson to introduce the simple future tense to mid/low ability Y10 (who had only done immediate future in KS3).
To do the listening, you need to have Kerboodle. I have added a gapfill activity to exploit the Kerboodle sound file in a different way.
Differentiated lesson.
Most able - range of subjects, some si clauses with set sentence openers
Least able - 1st person (other subjects with support).
Vocab sheet to use with this video from VideoEle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etd0-GwJJ0Y
Pupils see how many items they can identify from the video - challenge to find as many as possible, rather than expectation to get them all.
Then becomes sheet for recording vocab - go through answers on powerpoint and pupils fill in gaps.
Writing tasks for Year 8 studying the topic of Holidays (Expo 2).
Developed in response to requirements of the new GCSE proposals, as the current Y8 will be the first affected.
Aim is to get them used to regularly writing stuff without access to their books, word mats or dictionaries, reusing prior knowledge.
Focus on conveying information and using correct verbs, rather than developed and fancy work.
Mixture of task bullet points for writing tasks, and translation (both directions).
A worksheet aimed at preparing a very low ability (Y11 SEN) class for the FCSE Reading papers on the topic of Holidays.
Covers key vocabulary needed for the paper that they won't necessarily have covered before as the FCSE papers can be a bit random.
Read and run activity for bottom set Y8.
4 fairly straightforward texts about holidays in the past tense, with 15 questions for pupils to answer in teams by reading the texts around the room.
The last 3 questions require them to answer in French by finding the correct phrase.
Reading task to revise the perfect tense with Y9 after teaching illness with 'j'ai mal au...'.
Pupils match 2 halves of sentences and work out which illness would result from which activity.
As extension, I set 'find the French' on various time phrases and connectives used in the speech bubbles.
Present tense lesson for Year 8:
-match-up starter with grammar extension for more able
-tutorial and drilling on present tense formation
-writing task
-'donner ou garder les points' plenary game - pupils translate sentence, then decide whether to keep the points or give to the other team BEFORE the points are revealed.
Hand out grids - pupils mustn't show partner.
Use question 'Qu&'est-ce que ton pere/ta mere fait dans la vie?' and answer with 'il/elle est...' based on grid.
When finished, compare grids in pairs to check answers.
Various activities used as starters or plenaries during topic on hobbies, sport and the weather.
Includes - 3 in a row (girls vs. boys - pupils must say phrase correctly based on picture to claim the square), gapfill, find the mistakes, settling match-up in books starters, and a game for plenary.
Pupils had covered perfect tense during module on hobbies/leisure in the previous term but had had a bit of a break from it. Used quiz to get them thinking about it again and prepare to apply it to the current topic.
Could use to test how much they remember, or let them use their exercise books (opportunity for them to evaluate how good their note-taking is and if their books will help them revise).
Simple lesson to revise/introduce personality.
Designed for a cover lesson, to ensure classes whose teacher is absent will have covered the same content.
Used with high/middle set Y10 classes.
Some mistakes should be obvious enough for all to spot (eg: infinitive instead of past participle) whilst others are more challenging.
To revise for a reading assessment towards the end of Expo 2 Module 3 (Les sorties), testing knowledge from Modules 1, 2 and 3.
Includes free time activities, perfect tense, modal verbs.
Print p.1 on plain paper and give a sheet to each group to highlight key words, etc.
Print p.2 on different colours of card and cut into strips (each question on a different strip).
Give each group Q1 - when they have written their answer on the strip of card, they bring it to you and you give them Q2. It's a race to finish first (or get the most questions answered within the time limit).
My pupils loved this and asked if we could do it again soon.
Cover lesson for a low ability Y7 group.
Various puzzles to consolidate vocabulary for rooms of the house and furniture.
Tasks increase in difficulty across a double-sided worksheet - wordsearch is accessible for the weakest students, cryptogram is a challenge for more able.
