I am a teacher of design technology and now feel it's time to give back a little to help all teachers out there. Most resources are based around resistant materials but having taught all areas within technology some resources can be easily transferred to all areas and even other subject.

D&T Passport

D&T Passport

(0)
A passport that I have found particularly useful when starting practical lessons within D&T. This one is specifically based around resistant materials but it could easily be adapted to suit other areas. The idea behind it is for every pupil to be given one at the start of the module or year and when pupils have been shown fully how to use the tool or equipment by yourself in a demonstration they then fill out the risk assessment that is printed on the reverse. It is then signed and dated to prove that each pupil has had sufficient training on the equipment or tools.

Resistant materials grade descriptors

(0)
Grade descriptors for research, generating ideas, making and evaluating. These pages were created based around the new grade descriptors of 1-9 taking the main points that I expected pupils to meet within each of the areas. The pages include a space for self, peer and teacher grades and were added into work booklets to help pupils understand how to achieve a higher grade.

What do you know?

A simple resource that I have used at the start of practical lessons and during lessons leading up to practical to get pupils to discuss what the tool does that is on their desk. Useful to see what pupils have remembered from previous lessons or their knowledge about the tool before using it. Could be adapted for equipment in any area of D&T

Sum it up

Simple resource that could be used as a plenary to get pupils to concisely sum up what they have taken from the lesson. Pupils write no more than 50 words to conclude the lesson. Could be used across all subjects.
