I am a teacher of design technology and now feel it's time to give back a little to help all teachers out there. Most resources are based around resistant materials but having taught all areas within technology some resources can be easily transferred to all areas and even other subject.

Designing The Built Environment – DBE3

(0)
WJEC Designing The Built Environment (DBE3) PowerPoint resource to help deliver the content within lessons. Covers all content from the specification as set by WJEC. There are also four practice tasks to help students practice the written elements before their assignment is handed out to them. This helps students to bring together the content learned in lessons and helps to assess where they are after content delivery. We use these to help students plan out their time efficiently before the assignment so they have had a dry run through of it.

Constructing the Built Environment Unit 3 WJEC

(1)
A PowerPoint presentation for the WJEC Constructing the Built Environment Unit 3 specification GCSE. Within the resource there is a large amount of content that follows the specification requirements along with some example practice questions for students. The resource also includes a practice assignment which we use in lessons with pupils still even though this has now changed to be an exam. We have decided to continue the assignment to help assess students assignment writing abilities for other areas that we deliver for GCSE, and also to help pupils summerise the content delivered through the PowerPoint.

Resistant materials grade descriptors

(0)
Grade descriptors for research, generating ideas, making and evaluating. These pages were created based around the new grade descriptors of 1-9 taking the main points that I expected pupils to meet within each of the areas. The pages include a space for self, peer and teacher grades and were added into work booklets to help pupils understand how to achieve a higher grade.

AQA GCSE Resistant materials revision lessons

A series of revision lessons for GCSE AQA Resistant Materials. The lessons work through everything that students need to revise in order to pass the exam. There are also task sheets that students use in order to take revision notes for most of the lessons, which becomes their personal revision notes to revise from at home. Finally there are PowerPoints that go through the 2014 exam paper giving model answers to help students gain maximum marks when they come to sit the exam paper.

Higher Order Thinking Questions

A poster which displays higher order thinking questions for Design Technology. A great resource that could be displayed on a wall, used as a resource for pupils to use during class discussions, or even as a way of helping pupils to annotate their design ideas. The poster uses a 1-6 ladder which helps to prompt questions at low order thinking skills (knowledge), up to high order thinking skills (synthesis).
