These paragraphs can be used to illustrate key features of KS2 descriptive writing pupils all start with the same character at the beginning of a mystery story, but chooses one of 3 beginnings - each paragraph sets the character in a different time - one from the past, one present day and one set in the future. KS2 Year 6 Sats Reading Comprehension – ‘Retrieval’ and ‘Word Meaning in Context’ Practice The questions that follow the short fiction story (The Hare and The Tortoise’ by Aesop ) cover content domains: 2a = to give or explain the meaning of words in context. 2b = retrieve and record information or identify key details from fiction and non-fiction. They are straightforward questions written in the style of SATS retrieval/word meaning questions.
