A reading comprehension activity, or informational text, with comprehension and grammar questions followed by an extension task about the former president of the United States, Barack Obama. The Google Forms activity is ideal for distance learning and perfect for students in Year 3 or Year 4 learning about World History. When downloaded this resource includes a printable version of the reading comprehension and a PDF with a link that allows you to copy the Google Forms document and save it in your Google Drive. The activity can be completed by students online using tablets, phones or computers, and is easily assessed by teachers as all the answers are provided in a quick and easy format. Time allowance to complete: 5-10 minutes - read through the text individually. 30-40 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity) Time allowance to assess: A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word. In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word. In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 timeline task cards about important historical events from the 1900s before putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word. In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word. This is a play script for William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which has been rewritten to be suitable for ages 9 to 14. A Midsummer Night’s Dream tells the story of four Athenian lovers who have a complicated yet dramatic love life. Lysander and Hermia loved each other and wished to be together. Helena loved Demetrius, but Demetrius loved Hermia, and Hermia’s father wanted him to marry his daughter. Hermia and Lysander decided to run off together into the woods. But the woods were haunted by the Fairy King and Queen - Oberon and Titania, and the King’s mischievous henchman, Puck. This is a play script for William Shakespeare’s Hamlet written to be suitable for ages 9 to 14. Hamlet tells the story of a Prince whose father, the King, has just died. His father’s ghost visits him and tells him that the new King, Claudius – who has married his mother – was the killer. Hamlet wants revenge and the story follows a bloody path in which he takes revenge but loses his own life, and the life of the woman he loves – Ophelia. The play script is a mix of modern English with some of the famous lines from the real play mixed in as well. I hope you enjoy it – good luck! If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word. In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word. In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 timeline task cards that cover key events of the 1600s before putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word. In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.
