Specialist GCSE English Tutor and Examiner (QTS, PGCE, BA Hons) with 5 years experience. I am passionate about making English accessible for all, and for breaking down barriers to learning. My resources reflect this, and have a focus on explaining key terminology, crucial information and ideas in the most simple and straight-forward way possible. As an AQA examiner, most resources have the AQA syllabus in mind, though I will occasionally share Edexcel and Cambridge resources.

Most individual activities will take around 30 minutes, but the whole pack is many hours of work and revision. I would love to hear what you think of these resources! I have had some excellent lessons from these and continue to love the reaction of students when it “clicks” and the English Language and new complicated words suddenly seem so much less daunting!

Prefixes, Suffixes and Root Words: An Introduction to Etymology

(1)
An introduction to etymology for KS3 and KS4. Help to close the word gap by arming students with some basic history of the English Language and some key root words, prefixes and suffixes. This is one of my most used resources over the last 5 years, and I have had some fantastic feedback from pupils for it! Many will proudly tell me when they’ve spotted root words “in the wild” after this lesson, and it is surprising how engaged they can be to discover this new skill in understanding new words and new texts! It’s like a code being cracked: A great feeling! A good way to start the term with Year 7 all the way to Year 11!
