KS3 Slavery to Civil Rights : 13 lessons (at least 16 hours of content) following the complete story of discovery of the New World and start of the slave trade to the complete Civil Rights fight and Martin Luther King. Also includes a cover lesson and additional source question pack which could be set as homework. Lessons include: Black history overview, exploration of the new world, slavery introduction, triangle trade, middle passage, plantations, abolition, underground railroad with Harriet Tubman, Jim Crow, KKK, Emmett Till, civil rights, Martin Luther King and more. There is easily enough material for a whole term - you may find some of the lessons last more than one hour. The unit was originally taught to Year 8, but has had extra challenges added to suit it to Year 9 over the last year too. Every lesson is differentiated to at least three levels of challenge, has source analysis tasks, peer or mini-assessments, clip tasks with differentiated questioning, essay or literacy focus tasks for GCSE skills prep. This is inclusive of all the standards you’d expect - starters, plenaries, measurable LOs, well presented Powerpoints and easy to follow worksheets with instructions.
