A fully differentiated and resourced lesson that introduce students to the context surrounding Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. We look at ideas about the American Dream, and how the Great Depression impacted on American society after the Roaring Twenties. Additionally, we look at how Steinbeck introduces setting and character at the start of the novel and how these are linked to the idea of the American Dream. Designed for Literature students but easily adaptable for younger ages.
Sign of Four - A fully differentiated and resourced lesson that focuses on helping students to link pieces of historical and social context together to ideas that they write within their essays on the text. Very useful for improving students’ understanding of AO3 and being able to link The Sign of Four to attitudes on race, gender equality, Empire and more. Definitely worth downloading!

Charge of the Light Brigade by Alfred Lord Tennyson is a fantastic piece that conveys ideas of patriotism, bravery and heroism. This fully differentiated and resourced ‘ready to go’ lesson on Tennyson’s Charge of the Light Brigade, one of the poems in the AQA Power and Conflict Poetry Anthology, with the lesson ideally suited for both KS3 and KS4 students, includes activities to help students engage with the themes and perspectives in the poem, but also allows students to start making comparisons between this poem and Ted Hughes’ Bayonet Charge.

In Shakespeare’s A Midsummer NIght’s Dream we begin to draw the main plot to a close as Hermia and Helena are together with Lysander and Demetrius. We explore how non-rhyming iambic pentameter is employed by Elizabethan and Jacobean writers to indicate class and status, and evaluate why Caliban has been given the gift of blank verse.
