A resource to support students aiming for high marks on question 9 of the Edexcel GCSE Music examination. There are 10 points per set work which students can revise from which aim to either link to the genre, link to characteristic features of the piece/genre or explain WHY the composer chose a certain aspect.
This has been used with a cohort of students for revision and half of the cohort achieved 9 or above /12 on the essay question.

Lesson introducing the character of Squealer.
It starts by looking at adjectives to describe Squealer and his function of the play.
Then students make inferences about 11 Squealer quotations and then compare their explanations to my teacher explanations.
The lesson is aimed at a mid ability class. However, there are some concepts aimed more at higher ability students such as obfuscation and gas-lighting and contextual links to Molotov and Pravda that can be explored in greater depth with higher-ability classes.

Lesson on Act 5 Scene 1 which prepares students for answering a question about how Lady Macbeth is presented in this scene.
Includes general questions on the extract, a table (with answers) to explore the impact of language features and a writing frame for turning the table into an extended analysis. There is also a high level model response that I show to students after they have attempted the question to help them respond to feedback.
There is also an extension activity encouraging students to write a psychological evaluation of Lady Macbeth.
I have also added comprehension questions to help analyse the scene in great detail.

PowerPoint for an exam walk-through looking at the AQA Question from May 2017.
Differentiated starter: define the key words linked to male aggression and make links.
Main: Analyse 5 key extracts that demonstrate male aggression with a focus on A01 and A02. Suggested answers are on the PowerPoint to guide students through each extract.
Plenary: Draw a line graph to chart the intensity of male aggression across the play.
Also includes a band 5/6 model response to the question so students can look at how to develop their writing into a top band style response.
4 differentiated writing frames to 4 actual AQA power and conflict past exam questions. Each writing frame has 3 tiers of difficulty to allow for the fact different students in the class require different levels of support and guidance in the run up to the examinations.
Tier 1: Students add the analysis of the quotations. The topic sentences and recommended quotations are already filled in for them.
Tier 2: Students must pick their own 3 quotations from each poem and analyse the quotations.
Tier 3: Students must pick their own topic sentences, quotations and then analsyse the quotations.
