A complete English lesson covering words that can be used instead of nice.
The PowerPoint gives children examples of alternative words that they can use for nice and builds a list of alternative words - this final list could then be printed out for the children to use when they are writing. Children are then given a sentence with the word nice in and they have to replace the word nice in the sentence - children could rewrite the sentence on their whiteboards and replace the word nice or could simply write an alternative word for nice. The lesson includes three differentiated worksheets and a plenary where children have to find the odd word out eg amazing, helpful, caring and explain why it is the odd word out.
Aimed at Early Years and Key Stage 1 children.
An English activity to help children to plan a story in a step by step manner.
This activity breaks down story planning into small chunks and enables children to plan each stage of the story. The activity encourages lots of talk and children enjoy sharing their ideas about the story. The activity encourages children to think about and describe their character, the setting and the time of their story. Children then plan the problem, what happens first, then and next and then the solution and the ending. The activity gives children different ideas and demonstrates to children that not all stories need to be the same as we all have different ideas and suggestions. I often take several days to work through this activity and to build story plans with the children and find that rereading our story plans regularly helps children when they reach the writing stage.
This activity could be used in Early Years to introduce story planning and oral retelling of a story to the children or in Key Stage 1 to support children with story planning and story writing.

A number bonds word problems activity for making 20.
This Maths activity can support children to learn and practise number bonds to make 20. The activity shows children all of the different number bonds for making twenty. Each number bond has a word problem eg I have twenty cats, 12 of the cats are playing in the garden. How many cats are in the house? Children can solve these problems using objects and pictorial representations and record their number sentence on their whiteboards. The word problems in this activity all start with the teen number so children can gain confidence solving the problems for making 20.
Activity could be used as a whole class activity or in small groups.
Aimed at Early Years and Year 1 children however could be used as a recap or as part of a booster session for Year 2 children.

A set of 14 colour coded multiplication tests to test for quick recall of multiplications to x12.
Each test has thirteen questions to complete and there are two tests for each colour of the rainbow. Each child also has a blank rainbow to colour, they can colour each band once they are secure on that set of multiplications eg red multiplications are x2 and x10 therefore once children are secure at x2 and x10 they would colour the red band of the rainbow. The aim is for children to colour the whole rainbow.
These tests cover multiplications from x0 to x12 starting with x2 and x10 and ending with a test of all multiplications. The tests can be used with a timer to check how secure children are with multiplication recall. Children enjoy working their way through the colours of the rainbow and if not secure can repeat tests again and try to beat their previous score.

There are 7 activity sheets for the children to complete each week.
I have used this activity to encourage children to use adjectives in their written work.
The intervention helps children to gain confidence when they are writing sentences.
A set of ten pictures each with sequencing and prediction activities.
For the prediction activities, children need to answer questions about the picture eg what do you think happened before the fish found the treasure chest or what do you think will happen next.
For the sequencing activity, children need to sequence sentences about the picture or complete sentences explaining what they think happened in the story.
This PowerPoint encourages lots of discussion and talk from the children.
Aimed at Key Stage 1 children
A set of ten pictures and accompanying sentences introducing new vocabulary.
For each picture children have to identify a word within the sentences for example the word that describes the cakes or the word that tells you what the bird is doing. Once they have identified the word and talked about it’s meaning they then need to find other words that they could use instead for example they could replace large with huge, oversized. For the next activity children need to read a sentence and talk about what they think one of the words within the sentence means.
This activity PowerPoint introduces children to new vocabulary and encourages them to use the picture and the whole sentence to discuss what they think words mean. For some children they will be able to read the sentences independently however for other children I will read the sentence to them or with them depending on their ability. This activity focuses on vocabulary and discussing word meaning and not on children’s reading ability.
Aimed at KS1 children.
