Rules of the road: understanding what employers expect in terms of behaviour and conduct when employed. Did you think of behaviour when you created your list of what employers will be looking for? You may think that only your behaviour during a job interview will be considered as that’s all a prospective employer will see. Actually, there’s a lot you can do to build up your understanding and the skills needed by employers before you apply for that all important job. And by gaining experience you will be able to demonstrate it in your application. How? Module 2: Rules of the Road will help you get a much better understanding of what sort of behaviour will be expected in a workplace and how you can learn to adapt your own behaviour to meet your employer’s expectations. Employers will be looking for evidence that you know how to behave in the workplace and that can be provided in a number of ways. Have you had any part-time work yet? If not, how about voluntary work? You will be offered an opportunity for work experience before you leave school.

Roadblocks: Adapting to barriers and unexpected last-minute changes, finding alternative routes and solutions. As you travel along on your career journey, there are bound to be challenges along the way. Some of these will require minor adjustments in approach or usual process to overcome, for others you will need to think on your feet, adapt and perhaps step out of your comfort zone in order to find the best route to take. Every day we face changes and new scenarios, however how we perceive them often dictates the difference between seeing a barrier in the way or recognising an opportunity for growth. Being adaptable and flexible means having a positive attitude to change and being able to quickly and effectively adjust to new circumstances. Automotive themed complete lesson plans x 12 All lessons are based on real life activities with the motor industry as a backdrop, encompassing sub-sectors such as motorsport, motorcycle, heavy vehicle, motor parts, paint and finishing and sales as well as green issues such as vehicle emissions. The automotive industry helps everyone, from delivering food and medicine on time, helping people travel to work and emergency services being able to help in a crisis, the motor industry helps to keep the country moving. Automotive means everything on the UK roads that we use to transport people and things. This includes cars, lorries, motorbikes, busses, electric scooters, vans, and tractors. The IMI helps people working in the motor industry and Sytner Group are Europe’s largest automotive retailer. Together we have been working hard to prepare the industry for the future, but we have run out of ideas! So, we need your help to create a brand-new vehicle that will be ready for 2030. Can you imagine what type of vehicles will be popular in 2030? What will they look like? How will they run? Will they have some fun things in them that haven’t been invented yet? Follow the steps below and help us design a vehicle of the future.

We want you to design the vehicle of the future for 2030 with a specific target market in mind. Over the last 100 years cars have come a long way in fact most of the companies you know today would not have existed. We would like you to research and think about what vehicles will look like in in the future to support these individuals and help us shape the future of the industry. Either individually or in teams of 4-6 work together to research, design, market and pitch your new vehicle. Keep in mind your target audience and use your unique selling point (USP) to make your car stand out for the crowd! Finally send in a copy of your presentation or pitch to careers@theimi.org.uk or post it in, for it to be marked by the panel of industry judges.
