A set of 6 lesson starters targeting key areas of weakness for high ability year 11. Used on numerous occasions and proved to be a success. At the end of 2 weeks the aim is that all pupils will be able to complete all 6 within the allocated time for your starter when initially only being able to complete 1 or 2.

2 sets of starters, which will last a minimum of 12 lessons which are worth 28 marks in total. They focus on key skills in the new 9-1 Foundation GCSE to ensure that pupils can improve their raw score. The same questions are repeated for 6 lessons with the aim that at the end of the 6 lessons that they will be able to achieve the 14 marks.

In each PPT there are 6 individual starters (12 in total) in which the same 5 questions are repeated but just different values. These have been proven to ensure 5 topics are revisited at the beginning of lessons which are generally 2-3 marks each on an exam. Pupils like the repetition of the same questions each lesson and seeing progress from maybe being able to do 1 to doing all 5 at the end of the 6 lessons. Pupils really do see the benefit and a nice way to have a task ready on pupil entry to the classroom.

A series of lessons (2/3) on applying the 4 operations to algebraic fractions. All tasks are 3/4 parts differentiated, red, amber, green and purple with solutions to all tasks. Used with top set year 11 and stretched the more able and consolidated the basics aswell, suitable for all KS4 Higher pupils Pupils fully engaged in problem solving and tailored to suit the new curriculum.

A worksheet on finding the equation of a straight line. This is suitable for the new curriculum as it includes learning the skill but also reasoning skills. It also has worded problems and an investigation in order to stretch and challenge pupls.

This is a series of lessons (2-4) on using and applying Sine Rule. The lesson covers varying tasks on using an applying sine rule in various contexts. It allows the pupils to master the basics of Sine Rule and then applying it to multi step problems. It also links Sine Rule to bearing problems and Algebraic problems. All tasks are differentiated either 3 or 4 levels. All tasks have solutions so pupils can self mark with some of the solutions handwritten so pupils can see a full worked solutions. This has been used with classes of varying ability and all have been able to access the lesson up to their desired ability.

A series of lessons (2 - 3) on finding the equation of a straight line. A series of lessons (1-2) on finding missing angles in triangles. It gives opportunity to explore the basics but also to combine different angle facts aswell and linking them to algebra. Also, there is a mini investigation to angles in polygons. It is suitable for the new 9-1 curriculum as there are many opportunities to tackle reasoning tasks and develop deeper thinking. Used with KS3 and KS4 and pupils have been engaged as all tasks are differentiated giving them the chance to consolidate but challenge themselves. All tasks are differentiated to at least 3 levels with solutions on each.

A series of lessons (2-3) on using the quadratic formula to solve a quadratic. It introduces the formula and has a RAG task on using this formula to a basic quadratic, ones where some rearrangement is needed and moves onto shape problems. There are also reverse problems in which pupils would need to find the values of a,b and c. All tasks are differentiated to at least 3 levels. There are reasoning and problem solving tasks which are suitable for the new curriculum. All tasks have solutions so that it is easy for the pupils to mark their work. This has been used and allowed pupils to master the skill and for the more able to develop their understanding

This lesson recaps basic factorising inc difference of two squares ect. There is then a RAG task on solving a quadratic by factorising and includes varying tasks such as rearranging ect to really get the pupils thinking. It also links in algebra with shape and have reasoning and problem solving questions which are suitable for the new curriculum. All tasks are differentiated to at least 3 levels. There are reasoning and problem solving tasks which are suitable for the new curriculum. All tasks have solutions so that it is easy for the pupils to mark their work. This has been used and allowed pupils to master the skill and for the more able to develop their understanding

A series of lessons (2-3) on finding and solving equations of composite functions. It gives the pupils plenty of opportunity to become familiar with the notation of f(x) ect and using this to substitute numbers into an expression. It then gives pupils the chance to find fg(x) ect and then moves onto solving equations suh as fg(x) = gf(x). There are also problem solving tasks to develop pupils learning. All tasks are differentiated, 2-4 levels for each task to make it accessible to all pupils but also to stretch the more able. All tasks have full solutions to it is easy to peer and self assess during the lesson. The lesson includes reasoning and problem solving tasks which ensure that this is suitable for the 9-1 GCSE curriculum. I have used this lesson and pupils were engaged yet challenged.

A series of lessons (2-3) on finding the HCF/LCM using a Venn Diagram, which is suitable for the new curriculum. Pupils are given the chance to master the fluency of this topic aswell as work on reasoning and problem solving tasks. All tasks are differentiated to 3 levels all with solutions and offer lots of consolidation as well as alot of challenge. Can be used with KS3/KS4.

A series of lessons (2-3) on multiplying and dividing by powers of 10, which is suitable for the new curriculum. Pupils are given the chance to master the fluency of this topic aswell as work on reasoning and problem solving tasks. All tasks are differentiated to 3 levels all with solutions and offer lots of consolidation as well as alot of challenge. Can be used with KS3/KS4.
