I made these sheets for my year 2 class to work on in mixed ability pairs. I think it would work with year 3 and 4 and possibly with high level year 1 children as well. Please note they are not differentiated! It worked very well though, I got them talking together in groups of 2. The skills practised are the following: - Question words: (sheets for two sessions) Thinking carefully about what kind of answer the question word asks for. It is done in two parts - one where they have to read a question and discuss what kind of thing they are looking for in the answer eg a place, a person etc. The second part has questions and possible answers, all multiple choice. There is no text but children have to work out from the question word which answer is correct by identifying if the question asks for a time, place, reason etc. - Inference: Looking at the clues in the text and using them to make sense of what happened - Language: (sheets for two sessions) Thinking about language choices, understanding words, picking out synonyms etc.

Maths sheet on bar charts: Children read the table of who was in the final in the past and what their results were and make a bar chart of how many goals were scored in each final throughout the years and answer some challenge questions about it. Differentiated - one is more scaffolded and the bar chart has been prepared, the other needs children to label their own bar chart. There is also another sheet where children choose 5 countries and represent in a bar chart how many times each country has participated in the final. 2. Maths activity on finding all possibilities: Differentiated three ways. Children have the task of designing a new football kit for their favourite country and have to choose three (four) colours. They then find all possible ways of putting a new kit consisting of either shorts and t-shirt or shorts, t-shirt and socks together for their chosen colours. This activity comes with a notebook file to model. 3. A two pages long information sheet with facts about the past, this year's games and the mascot. This resource consists of the following six mostly differentiated activities related to the World Cup: Problem-solving lesson with notebook and 3 differentiated sheets. Children design new football kit for their favourite national team consisting of tshirts, shorts (and socks) and find all possibilities of combining them when using 2 (3) colours. Bar chart lesson. Children use data from a Workd Cup table and put it into a bar chart. Differentiated. First bar chart in ones up to 6 and children enter amount of world cups won by different nations. Second bar chart in twos up to 6 and children enter amount of world cups won by different nations. Third bar chart in tens up to 230 where children enter amount of goals scored in world cups for several nations. All bar charts have at least 5 follow-up questions. First two probably more suited to KS1, last one to KS2. Symmetry activity. Children use pictures of flags of all participating teams which are included and sort them into symmetrical and not symmetrical. Included is another sheet on explaining our reasoning - choose two non-symmetrical flags - what would need to be changed so they are symmetrical, explain. Sorting Activity: Children use pictures of flags of all participating teams which are included and sort them using their own criteria into a Venn or Carroll diagram. A quick activity on comparing two flags - how are they the same and how are they different. One activity where children use information on who won the world cup when and put the countries in chronological order by year. One scaffolded sheet and one not scaffolded. Originally designed for lower primary (Year 1-3), this resource is a great way to get children to think about what they want to do in the holidays. They have 9 sentence starters eg On a rainy day I want to… On a hot day I want to … To keep learning I want to… and they have to make their own bucket list for the holidays. It could be adapted for higher year groups. Also a little pattern puzzle activity whereby each child gets to design a tile and it can be put together as a class piece of art work.

Two differentiated sheets for mapping South America. Children make their own key of countries or fill in the key by colouring in the countries of South America. The challenges are based on Brazil and mapping cities/rivers. Works best when copied on/blown up to A3. Map for both attached in case your school has no atlases or not enough to go round. I had look at the new curriculum with regards to the phonics and spelling patterns that children have to be taught in year 2. We decided to use the RML flashcards and rhymes to teach the sounds, so this is a breakdown of what sounds are taught/recapped when, sticking to the order in which RML is taught. It goes hand in hand with the flashcards from RML with all the lovely rhymes. I have written down all the sound recaps and spelling patterns for year 2 from the new curriculum. For 2015/2016.

This is a 4x4 bingo game which I did for my yr 1 and they really loved it. Just stick pictures of 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p and 50p coins on a dice and they can play. Resource includes 6 different sheets (enough for a table group).

I created this for my KS1 team as displays for their classrooms. It explains all terminology that children (and teachers) need to be able to know and use in English in year 1 and year 2 according to the New Curriculum in child speak. Hope you find it useful.

This is a great resource for children to use for maths when we celebrate the Queen's 90th. Add the prices depending on your year group's needs (and differentiate it for different groups) and then children work on word problems (mostly multiplication) about party planning with 90th Birthday Merchandise... There are also two group tasks if you would like a more open ended activity; one where children decide what to buy for how many people and find the total and one where children plan on a budget and have to figure out what they can get for the amount they have. I hope that works - feedback very welcome, have already acted upon feedback and improved the resource. I also included a powerpoint about Buckingham Palace - interior and exterior - to show children what it looks like and to get an idea of HRH's life. The powerpoint is not maths based, however, it gives you an idea of what the rooms look like, what the staff at the Palace do when they put on a meal etc.

This resource was made with year 2 in mind but is really suitable for infants and lower juniors. It consists of four parts: INFORMATION BOOK Children can do their own research using this 16 page long information book that I created about Brazil. It is attached in two formats: pdf and word doc so it can be edited. The contents of the book are as follows: 1. Glossary COMPREHENSION SATs style comprehension based on the information book. It is differentiated for WT (Working towards), E (expected) and WAGD (Working at greater depth). BOARD GAME A board game where children can play in partners. It helps them recall facts learnt from the booklet about Brazil eg about the rainforest, weather, Olympics etc. POSTER ACTIVITY Children work in groups of three and create a poster about Brazil using the information book as starting point. They have the attached sheet as their success criteria which reinforces what needs to go on a poster (heading, sub-heading, facts, pictures, etc). They work together as team (criteria for that on sheet as well) and present the information using their neatest presentation skills. Can be differentiated by giving different children different roles eg scribe, researcher, illustrator... Teacher can then go around and in good old competition style give children stickers/points for each bit of the success criteria they have met. Winning team is the team that has the most stichers/points. I gave out stickers/points for each sub-heading and paragraph of information. My class loved it. Took them all morning and they were so engaged they wouldn't even want to go out for play! :)

I created this differentiated worksheet for my year 2 class when we analysed and interpreted data. Questions include simple retrieval such as How many people like? What is the most/least popular item as well as adding up totals (How many people like ... and ...?) and finding the difference questions such as How many more people liked ... than ... Each group has 2 or 3 sheets. It is differentiated for the lowest group as well and includes a mastery style question for the high ability. I always have a vote on the last day of term to elect the hardest worker, kindest person, funniest person and more... and each child is allowed to vote for who they think the award should go to and they can write down the 3 people that fit best into each category. They love it! I print/write the class name and date on there, sign it, laminate the certificates and set them up at the front of the classroom when they come in on their last day. I also buy the cheap plastic trophies from Sainsbury's, and stick the attached little labels on them before they go out. I also make a year book with them a week before we break up, which I get them to fill in and then copy for the whole class. It's a lot of fun and a nice keepsake for them and their parents. Enjoy! The text is on the top half of the sheet and questions are below for children to answer. This can be split up into two different comprehension activities if 11 pages is too much. It is differentiated in a higher and a lower comprehension - one with mostly retrieval and one with reasoning and some inference questions. There is also a reading comprehension for lower ability children or children with EAL with very basic facts and instructions to draw and some early writing. 3. A starter activity to get them thinking about question words and what each means. Also matching questions to answers.

BAR CHARTS These differentiated maths sheets are about on bar charts: Children read the table of how many treats children got from trick or treating and make a bar chart of it plus they answer questions about it. It is differentiated into bar charts that go up in 1s, 2s and 5s. It is further differentiated for each (1s, 2s or 5s) - one is more scaffolded and the bar chart has been prepared, the other needs children to label their own bar chart. Furthermore the same activity again but with a blank table for children to investigate trick or treating in their own class and create a car chart from there. ADDING SEVERAL NUMBERS Here are 6 differentiated worksheets (2 pages each) that I made for my class to relate maths learning to Halloweend. On each sheet, the letters of the alphabet are printed at the top and each letter has a value. Children then have to work out the total of several Halloween words printed on the sheet. 1. There are three sheets designed for applying mental strategies to work out name scores: -WALT add using mental strategies: Adding single-digit numbers using basic number bonds. - WALT add using mental strategies: Adding several multiples of 10. - WALT add using mental strategies: Adding several multiples of 100. 2. There are three more differentiated sheets, where children can apply the column method or a calculator for addition to work out the score of each name: - WALT add several two-digit numbers (each individual number below 30). - WALT add several two-digit numbers (each individual number below 50). - WALT add several two-digit numbers (each individual number below 100). The children then work out their own word's score and compare them to the other words :) Can easily be edited for your own classes.
