SPANISH COLOURS FLASHCARDS

PRIMARY SPANISH KS3 SPANISH COLOURS FLASHCARDS POSTERS These Spanish colours posters create an instant introduction to a range of colours in Spanish in your classroom. The posters also give the learning environment a fabulous Spanish look and feel, promoting Spanish as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of the classroom. They introduce learners to colours in Spanish from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarize themselves with both the ‘look’ of Spanish words, and how sounds are represented in the written form. The key colours are: aquamarine (blue-green); black; blue; brown (both marrón and pardo - I’ve also included castaño, as this is used to describe hair color and eyes for example, which are great topics to get learners talking in Spanish); cream (both beis and crema); green; grey; navy-blue; orange; bright pink; pink; purple; red; white; yellow. Use them as flashcards to introduce and practice language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating. It doesn’t matter if this particular language doesn’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the flashcards / posters provide learners with daily opportunities to engage with the written word in Spanish, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in Spanish. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Spanish flag or black wave, so 38 posters in total. Laminate the posters if possible, or print on card stock, particularly if you’re going to use them as flashcards to introduce and practise language: they’ll hang really nicely, stay in good shape, and you’ll be able to use them for years. Have a browse in my store for more Spanish flashcards / posters, and a wide range of other teaching and learning resources, with special offer bundles, resource boxes, and lots of freebies too! The product is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. A lively whole-group multi-skill language learning game. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompt of the clock faces, makes it perfect for practising, reinforcing and refreshing how to tell the time in Spanish, and for pronunciation practice too. There are 8 clock faces per page. This size ensures they are sufficiently large for students to be able to read the time clearly, also allowing for an ideal font size to keep language clear and accessible. I always laminate my language learning cards - it’s definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. The aim of the game is to arrange the clocks in the relevant order. Students will generally have several cards each, depending on the size of your class. We usually set the cards on a table, so that students can see the timeline clearly. I frequently use a timer when we play. Playing in teams, using either a single challenge, or with both challenges together, is really popular - students find the competitive element really motivating and are genuinely keen to see which team can finish first, and whether they can beat their own time record. The games also work well as pair or small-group games. There are two games, each with a different challenge: = Challenge 1: with all the the clock times in numerical order, Tengo… ¿Quién tiene…? = Challenge 2: with the all the clock times in random order, which really helps recall and embedding new language, as students often learn time phrases in numerical order, ¿Tienes…? FRENCH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES PRIMARY FRENCH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES KS2 FRENCH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES KS3 FRENCH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES KS4 FRENCH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES 10 DIFFERENTIATED WORD SEARCHES WITH ANSWER KEYS AND FRENCH CHRISTMAS VOCABULARY LIST Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The product is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. School licenses are available. Please read the Terms of Use. Word searches are a simple and effective way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in French, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. It focuses on 30 French Christmas words, which will also help to develop students’ awareness of some French-speaking countries Christmas traditions and figures, such as galette des Rois and Père Fouettard, which I’ve translated here as Father Fouettard, rather than Whipping Father. The vocabulary is really useful for stimulating discussion about French Christmas practices and customs. Students also enjoy talking about other Christmas traditions they know or follow. The vocabulary list features the definite article, though some grids also have the indefinite article / plurals for additional challenge. Grids 1-4 are French-French, where students are prompted with the French words, and look for them in French in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list to complete. Grids 5-8 are English-French, where the prompts are given in English, and students look for the French translation in the grid. They also write the French translation of the English word. Grids 9 and 10 prompt students with a specific Christmas image, and they look for the corresponding French word in the grid, also completing a French vocabulary list for additional consolidation. There is an answer key for each word search, so that students can check their answers, or use for a little extra help if they need it. The word searches and answer keys are in portrait format, with arrows indicating in which direction the individual words are located. There is an alphabetical French-English Christmas vocabulary list which students find really helpful. There are two formats: search grids and answer keys together, so that they can be printed out and copied double-sided, and search grids / answer keys as separate files. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. School licenses are available. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. Italian Christmas Io ho… Chi ha… ? is a whole-group lively and communicative language learning game. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompts of the Italian Christmas images, makes it perfect for practising, reinforcing and refreshing Italian Christmas vocabulary. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. The aim of the game is to arrange the cards in the relevant order. Students can either create a human chain, holding the cards themselves, or a card line, on the floor, a longish table or other flat surface. There are 32 Italian Christmas words with images, and it’s likely that students will have more than one card each per game, depending on the size of the class. The vocabulary and images provide a really useful stimulus for discussion about Christmas traditions and practices in Italian-speaking countries. There are two games, each with a different challenge: = Challenge 1: the nouns written out in full with the definite article, and the Q & A Io ho… Chi ha…? Students walk around, calling out the question. = Challenge 2: the nouns are in a different order, with only the definite article, and the Q & A ***Hi…? Sì (No), io ho…***. This challenge puts students’ vocabulary recall to the test, and students walk around, addressing other students individually. Play either as a whole-group game, or as a team game - which team can complete the challenge first? You can either play the challenges consecutively, or as a team game, swapping the challenges so that each team has a chance to play both challenges. I use word searches a lot in my languages classroom - they're ideal for encouraging students to engage with the written word in French, and for building vocabulary. The grids are differentiated to ensure increasing challenge. The word searches are really useful when introducing the concept of verb conjugation in French - we do lots of comparison with English, and discuss both similarities and differences - this helps students think about patterns and how languages work in general. There are 5 French-French grids, and 5 English-French grids - this gets students applying French a little differently. There's additional consolidation too, as I've put a verb list in each grid that students have to complete. They are easily differentiated - and the grids have an increasing level of challenge, to ensure that all students can feel confident about their learning - and lots of chances to keep challenging themselves. I've indicated the direction the words are located in the grid with arrows. There are 5 French to French grids, with an additional vocabulary list to complete for extra spelling practice. There are also 5 English to French grids with a vocabulary list to complete, which is a really successful way of consolidating vocabulary. There are 6 worksheets, with three differentiated conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations, in two formats: = Workbook Format: 10-page workbook, with cover page, verbs lists, six worksheets and Notes, Next Steps and New Verbs page, where students note any points they’d like to work more on, map their progress and list any new German regular verbs they learn, which helps them develop a really useful German verb bank. = Worksheet Format: worksheets can be printed out individually, or as a pack without the cover page, verbs lists and progress template, useful for quick revision, refresher, starters / finishers, and also generally saves on prep costs The answer key is a separate file with six pages, and I generally print this out as a pack for classwork, with groups of students sharing an individual pack. The worksheets also address a broad range of vocabulary and grammar points, such as direct / indirect object pronouns, negative sentences and adjectival endings. Some sentences include modal verbs and subordinating conjunctions, to ensure that students can practise locating the key verb accurately in various grammatical contexts. Students may not have engaged with all the language used at this stage, and this makes the activity equally about engaging with new language, as well as practising and reinforcing the current language focus. There are three differentiated conjugation challenges: = Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in sentence format across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English translation. Translating accurately is an important skill for language learners to engage with and master, and this kind of focused practice is really useful for them. = Conjugation Challenge 2: straightforward conjugation drill: each question gives a German infinitive and a target pronoun. Students write the corresponding German verb conjugation. = Conjugation Challenge 3: mirrors Challenge 1, with an increased challenge. Students write the German translation from an English sentence, to ensure that they are able to produce as well as recognize both the correct conjugation and a meaningful translation. A lively whole-group multi-skill language learning game, ideal for Primary German / KS2 German and KS3 / KS4 German students. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompt of the clock faces, makes it perfect for practising, reinforcing & refreshing how to tell the time in German, and for pronunciation practice too. There are two games, each with a different challenge: = Challenge 1: with all the the clock times in numerical order, Ich habe… Wer hat…? = Challenge 2: with the all the clock times in random order, which really helps recall and embedding new language, as students often learn time phrases in numerical order, Hast du…? Ja, (Nein) ich habe… Have a browse in my store for more German resources, including special offer bundles and freebies. VIELEN DANK UND VIEL SPAß BEIM SPIELEN!

These are whole-group lively & communicative language learning games, ideal for practising, reinforcing and consolidating 99 high-frequency French verbs. The games have a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking and reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. They’re perfect for pronunciation practice too. Active learning is a really successful way of developing both language skills and general confidence. The Christmas-theme is really popular around the holidays. The verbs are in the infinitive form, and the aim of the games is to create a French verb chain as quickly as possible. There are two games, each with a slightly different challenge: Challenge 1: verbs are in alphabetical order, with the question and answer format: J’ai… Qui a… ? Challenge 2: verbs are in random order, with the question and answer format: As-tu… ? Oui/Non, j’ai… In both challenges, the English translation of the verb appears immediately below the French verbs, which maximises opportunity for really embedding vocabulary. The game works just as well if the cards are placed on a longish table, or other flat surface. I created the games for my advanced beginner French learners, who are ready to move towards intermediate French, but I’ve also played them with my more advanced learners, who really enjoy ’going back to the start’ and having the opportunity to get up, walk about and talk - the games definitely provide some essential variety in learning activities. There is an alphabetical French-English verb list, featuring all the verbs used in the game. This is useful as a longer-term reference resource too.
