School licenses are available. Please read the Terms of Use. French Numbers 0-100 Challenge Cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of French numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarise themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words in French. The translation questions are a great way of introducing beginner French learners to the concept of translation too. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on***French Numbers 0-100***, but also for cover lessons, as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how to count in French, but also to enjoy working with French, and to feel confident about doing so. All questions are in French, and range in complexity and challenge, both in terms of language and number skills. I’ve used visual prompts such as maths symbols to ensure all learners can engage with the questions, and this helps them to begin to infer meaning from context, and to decode cues and prompts to foster understanding. I don’t allow the use of calculators to increase the challenge a little. Some questions focus specifically on French maths language, which students do not always engage with very often. The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and arithmetic creatively and practically, which is integral to successful language learning. My students also genuinely enjoy creating questions for each other. The set comprises the following non-editable files: = 48 differentiated question cards, 6 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Laminate if possible - it’s definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re more learner-friendly and remain in excellent condition for years. = answer key and recording sheet - I use recording sheets for more formal assessment purposes. My students all have class workbooks, and they use those to work out their answers, and to note them down, saving both prep time and paper. French Numbers 0-100 Word Searches Word searches are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word, practicing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on French Numbers 0-100, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. The searches offer a really useful learning opportunity - enabling learners to engage with the target vocabulary, but also aligning with cross-curricular learning - working on reading, writing, spelling, numeracy and French language skills in general. Students are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. As they move through the grids, their language skills are challenged in a range of ways - from straightforward vocabulary searching, to gap-fill, scrambled letters and more complex questions, which feature mathematical language in French. Hyphens are important in French numbers, and the grids feature these quite clearly, in order to ensure that learners can practice this aspect of language. The set comprises 198 matching French and English games cards with a vocabulary recall and write workbook, focusing on 99 beginner French words and phrases. The vocabulary topics are: salutations : couleurs (masculin et féminin) : nombres 21-40 : parties du corps (singulier et pluriel) : temps : phrases pour la salle de classe : questions et réponses My students really like to work independently, in pairs and in small groups, and these vocabulary cards enable them to do that. There are lots of games and activities to play, and I’ve described several that are successful with my groups. I’ve found that giving students regular and frequent opportunities to play with the cards, not only when we’re focusing on these particular vocabulary groups, but across the school year, really helps them understand and fully learn the vocabulary. The 18-page workbook gives students a different way of consolidating their vocabulary - writing it out really helps to embed language, and is great for spelling too. Students can use the same workbook several times by covering previous answers. There are 3 differentiated recall and write challenges, as well as a full alphabetical French-English vocabulary list. My students learn a lot from applying their French practically and creatively with the game card templates. - The workbook is really versatile and useful for a number of learning contexts, such as exam prep and sub lessons. The written recall challenges are as follows: = Challenge 1: students write the English word /phrase from a French prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category = Challenge 2: with this challenge, students write the words/phrases in French from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category = Challenge 3: this final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from French to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category - I’ve found that this really does encourage my students to think hard about their French vocabulary. INTERMEDIATE FRENCH CONDITIONAL TENSE CONJUGATION DRILLS FOCUSING ON 25 HIGH-FREQUENCY FRENCH -ER VERBS This kind of grammar activity is really popular with my students - they like to work independently, practicing and revising how to conjugate French verbs, and it’s a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. There are***150 conjugation questions across 3 differentiated conjugation challenges***, with an answer key booklet. I always give my students an answer key with this kind of workbook, as it facilitates independent learning, and they genuinely enjoy self and peer-assessment. Having an answer key also gives them an additional opportunity to engage with language and grammar. The format is as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French-English and English-French. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in French across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in French, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in French. Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding French verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt. FRENCH ER VERBS IMPERFECT TENSE

BEGINNER FRENCH INTERMEDIATE FRENCH IMPERFECT TENSE CONJUGATION PRACTICE featuring 25 high-frequency French -ER verbs My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. There are 150 conjugations across 3 differentiated conjugation challenges with complete answer key. The workbook focuses on formation and conjugation, rather than usage, though it’s definitely useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb formation and conjugation. Language learners tend to conflate what they know about grammar in their first language with the grammar of the language they are learning. For example, students with English as a first language frequently use j’étais travailler instead of je travaillais as a translation of I was working, and they look for a direct equivalent of the notion of used to…, before they embed the knowledge that this is implicit in the tense itself. There are specific differences in usage between English and French with this tense, and I do always discuss this with students about this when we’re using the workbooks - I tend to work fairly simultaneously with le passé composé and l’imparfait, because students are better able to understand correct usage when they look at a range of past tense contexts together. The resource is structured as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French-English and English-French Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in French across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in French, specifying the target pronoun. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. Lively whole-group communicative language learning game, perfect for practicing, reinforcing & refreshing a range of fruits in French. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too - particularly with silent s, the audible sound of x (deux and dix for example) and so on. I point out particular phonemes and sounds too, such as***ei in groseilles*** and the soft c in citrons . The aim of the game is to create a French sentence chain as quickly as possible. The game works well if the sentence sequence is placed on the floor, a longish table, or other flat surface. The design is four cards per page, which allows for a large font - this is really important for beginner language learners who are familiar with the written word, and starting to***link spelling with sound***. There are 29 fruits featured in the game: green apple; red apple; banana; cherry; date; fig; gooseberries; grapefruit; green grapes; red grapes; honeydew melon; kiwi; lemon; lime; mango; nectarine; olive; orange; papaya; peach; pear; pineapple; pumpkin; raspberry; redcurrants; rhubarb; starfruit; strawberry; watermelon. All the fruits may not be in my longer-term learning plan, but the learning objective moves beyond simply learning individual units of vocabulary - the images help students***infer meaning from context***, supported by the visual prompts and clues - this in turn supports them in developing their French language skills in the longer and more complex sentences. There is implicit input on grammatical concepts such as adjectival agreement, gender, definite, indefinite and partitive articles and position of adjectives, either preceding or proceeding the particular noun. This is a very successful way of really getting the most of what looks like a straightforward game for consolidating the target vocabulary - it is actually so much more! The question card template provides an additional learning activity, with students applying their developing French language knowledge creatively and practically, as they make game cards for the class - this is a really popular activity with my students. This challenges the memory more than when the vocabulary is in the order learners first learn it in, with the additional challenge of moving between the two languages = Meine Notizen und Neuer Wortschatz encourages students to reflect on their learning and to note any new vocabulary they may learn Laminate the game cards if you can as they’re more learner-friendly, and they will remain in excellent conditional for years.
