Task cards are really versatile too - we use them not only when we’re focusing on the target vocabulary, but throughout the year for sub lessons, as entrance and exit tickets, refreshers and free-choice learning. The goal is not simply to learn and practice how to count in French, but also to enjoy working with language, and to feel confident about doing so. The questions range in complexity and challenge, ensuring a scaffolded learning experience for students. All the questions are in French, including a range of French math language. Students may not necessarily engage with that at this stage of their learning, so I use math symbols as visual clues and prompts, enabling students to infer meaning from context. This is a key language learning skill in general, which is important for students to develop as quickly as possible. The resource comprises the following non-editable files in a zipped format: 36 differentiated question cards 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Print, laminate and cut out. Laminating is definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they cards are far more learner-friendly, and last for absolutely years answer recording sheet we mostly use class notebooks for recording answers, as this saves prep time and paper, though recording sheets are really useful for more formal assessment purposes answer key helps students develop more independence in, and responsibility for, their learning, and also give them an additional opportunity to engage with language question card template students apply their knowledge practically and creatively, which is an essential element in successful language learning number reference sheet MERCI BEAUCOUP ET BON APPRENTISSAGE !

It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. 99 high-frequency French verbs with 99 matching English verbs cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment, ideal for advanced beginner French learners, as they prepare to move into and work confidently at intermediate French level. The games and activities are a really successful alternative to more traditional ‘vocabulary drilling’ exercises. The game cards and accompanying Recall & Write challenges have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling. It doesn’t matter if any of the verbs don’t feature in your medium or even longer-term learning plan: this is a great way of encouraging your students to engage with new language, and to build their vocabulary at the same time. This prepares them really well for creative activities in French - they will have a rich vocabulary to choose from. The Reference, Recall & Write book has 18 pages. It includes an alphabetical French-English reference list of all 99 verbs. The Recall and Write challenges help students familiarise themselves with, and really embed, the range of verbs in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in French. It’s also a great way of developing literacy skills in French. The challenges can be done several times, as students simply cover previous responses, so they definitely get a lot of use from a single workbook. There are three differentiated recall challenges: Written Recall Challenge One students write the English verbs from a French prompt, with all the verbs in alphabetical order, French-English. Written Recall Challenge Two again, students write the verbs in English from a French prompt, but the French verbs are now in random, rather than alphabetical order. Language learners often learn or are familiar with new vocabulary in a particular order, so it increases the recall challenge by changing that order. Written Recall Challenge Three the final challenge requires students to write the corresponding French verb from an English prompt. The English verbs are also in random order. This challenge really helps with vocabulary recall, which is quite challenging when vocabulary does not appear in the context of a sentence. It’s really useful for spelling in French too. BEGINNER SPANISH INTERMEDIATE SPANISH ADVANCED SPANISH SPANISH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES FLAGS LABEL & COLOR Spanish-speaking countries, capital cities and flags label and color worksheets provide great learning opportunities for any appropriate age group, at any time of the school year, and are definitely the perfect activity for consolidating knowledge of these countries and flags - students definitely really enjoy testing their memory and recreating the flags in color. Students can develop their Spanish language skills, as well as their knowledge of both the Spanish-speaking and wider world, in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. There are 21 countries where Spanish is an official language, and I’ve also included three countries where Spanish is very widely spoken: Gibraltar, Andorra and the USA. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the games help them fully develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of Los países hispanohablantes. There is a country, capital city and flag reference list of all countries and capitals, which students find useful to read through before working on the sheets - I laminate these, because they last for years - one list per small group of 5-6 students is sufficient. It can also be used as a year-round reference resource, which students can file in their workbooks or learning folders. There are four sets of worksheets, each with two pages: Set 1: color flags, students label with country and capital city Set 2: blank flags, students label country and capital city, and color the flags Set 3: blank flags, country is given, students label capital city, and color the flags Set 4: blank flags, capital city is given, students label country, and color the flags Have a browse in my store for more Spanish-speaking countries activities, and a wide range of other Spanish teaching and learning materials, with dollar deals, special offer bundles and lots of freebies. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. 99 beginner Italian words & phrases with 99 matching English vocabulary cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment, ideal for advanced beginner Italian learners, and a great revision resource for students entering into intermediate Italian. The game cards and accompanying Recall & Write activities have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling. It doesn’t matter if any of the words or phrases don’t feature in your medium or even longer-term learning plan: this is a great way of encouraging your students to engage with new language, and to build their vocabulary at the same time. The vocabulary groups are as follows: Saluti : I giorni della settimana : I mesi dell’anno : I numeri da 0 a 20 La mia famiglia : Le parole comuni : Italiano in classe : Domande e risposte Students can work independently of the teacher, challenging themselves and each other in their best Italian accent to find all the matching words & phrases cards in Italian and English. The card templates allow students to apply their Italian knowledge practically and creatively, as they put together mini-quiz cards for each other, preferably from memory. Creating new language is an essential element of successful language learning, so this is a key part of the overall activity, and it’s really popular with my students. The Reference, Recall & Write book has 18 pages. It includes an alphabetical Italian-English reference list of all 99 words & phrases. There are three recall challenges: Written Recall Challenge One students write the English word or phrase from an Italian prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Two with this challenge, students write the words or phrases in Italian from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Three the final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from Italian to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category. This challenges the memory more than when the vocabulary is in the order learners first learn it in, with the additional challenge of moving between the two languages - I’ve found that this really does encourage my students to think hard about their Italian vocabulary. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. Speaking and writing are language skills that learners tend to find very challenging, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is really beneficial. The questions are differentiated, addressing a broad range of ability, which aim to progress all learners. Tenses include present, future, near future, perfect and conditional. Question formats are likewise varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in French. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts. The prompts are really versatile too, specifically with a focus on speaking and writing. Speaking: As a whole-group activity, distribute the cards among your students, one or several. Ideally, they should walk around the classroom, asking questions, and swapping cards. For pair or small-group work, students can work in a designated area. This really helps them focus closely on the language, and helps learners who are slightly less confident working with a larger group. The cards work particularly well as ice-breakers at the beginning of the school year, refreshers after vacation, prep for both new phase learning, for example intermediate to advanced intermediate, and even advanced intermediate to advanced, as well as exams. Writing: The cards work best in pair or small-group work, where learners have access to reference resources, such as bilingual dictionaries and the internet. The latter will enable them to prepare detailed responses to questions which address general knowledge, rather than their own life. They can then transfer this knowledge to their spoken work. There’s also a 2-page prompts master list. The prompts broadly address the following themes: college life & study; future plans; information technology; where I live; social & environmental issues; France & travel; social activity & daily life. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of French numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping beginner French students familiarise themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words in French. All questions are in French, and range in complexity and challenge, both in terms of language and number skills. I’ve used visual prompts such as math symbols to ensure all learners can engage with the questions, and this helps them to begin to infer meaning from context, and to decode cues and prompts to foster understanding. I don’t allow the use of calculators to increase the challenge a little. Some questions focus specifically on French math language, which students do not always engage with very often. The level of math is fairly simple, but certainly draws on prior number and arithmetic learning. The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and arithmetic creatively and practically, which is integral to successful language learning. BEGINNER ITALIAN INTERMEDIATE ITALIAN IRE VERBS IMPERFECT TENSE My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. There are 150 conjugations across 3 differentiated conjugation challenges. I use these kinds of workbooks in lots of different ways: for practice during the introduction phase, for independent choice in class time, for home learning, for practice and revision during vacation and at return to class, and for cover lessons - they’re really versatile, and ideal for advanced beginner Italian into intermediate Italian students who are beginning to work with more complex texts, including a range of tenses. Though the workbook focuses solely on the correct conjugation of verbs, and does not look at word order in the context of full sentences, there are conjugation patterns that students can learn, recognise and apply, ensuring that their spoken and written Italian is accurate, and that their understanding of Italian across the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing is robust. The resource is structured as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: Italian-English and English-Italian. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in Italian across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in Italian, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in Italian. Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding Italian verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt. Notes and Next Steps template which students visit regularly - it really does encourage them to think about where they are now, how confident they feel, and what they might need to work on a little more to be absolutely sure of their conjugation skills. We also note down any new verbs we meet, which enables students to build up their own verb vocabulary bank. answer key Try this free Italian conjugation workbook sampler to see if it’s the kind of learning activity that will work well for your students: ITALIAN CONJUGATION PRACTICE SAMPLER https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/italian-conjugation-practice-sampler-12507124 The product is non-editable in a zipped format. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. 34-page written recall workbook 400 French adjectives, English-French, with two written recall challenges. My students find the written recall challenges really useful throughout the school year, and particularly as we approach exam time - they generally like to work at their own pace, either in class time or at home. Students can challenge themselves multiple times, simply by covering over previous responses, which means we’re able to get a lot of use from a single book, saving both prep time and paper. We also use the book for quick vocabulary quizzes at frequent and regular intervals - I or a nominate student simply shout out the French or English adjectives, the first team to shout out the correct answer wins a point - it’s a great no-prep quiz for vocabulary recall practice and revision, and just as effective as more formal vocabulary assessment or tests. The workbook is ideal for advanced intermediate French students, and as a refresher and vocabulary audit for those moving into advanced French. There are two written recall challenges in the workbook: Written Recall Challenge One the four hundred adjectives are in alphabetical order English-French - students give the French translation of an English adjective Written Recall Challenge Two with this challenge, the English adjective prompts are in random order, and students give the French translation - students often learn new vocabulary in alphabetical order, so this can be great practice in recall The challenges work well together, and we do revisit them regularly over quite a long period of time. When students are very focused on particular vocabulary, they’re able to embed the vocabulary really successfully, and feel confident using it in a wide range of contexts. It’s useful to work on creative writing in French regularly too, so that students can apply their French practically, and I encourage them to use a wide range of adjectives, thinking about synonyms too. Have a browse in my store for more French vocabulary workbooks, and a wide range of other French teaching and learning activities, with French dollar deals, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies.
