French Numbers 0-31 J’ai… Qui a… ? This is a whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, perfect for practicing, reinforcing & refreshing how to count from 0 - 31 in French. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. The aim of the game is to create a French number chain as quickly as possible, starting with the first card zéro , and ending with the final card, trente et un. The game works just as well if the number sequence is placed on the floor, a longish table, or other flat surface. I created the game for my young beginner learners, but I’ve also played the game with my adult learners, who really enjoy it too - the monster theme is popular with everyone! The design is four cards per page, which allows for a large font - this is really important for beginner language learners who are starting to familiarize themselves with the written word. Try to print in color if you can - it adds to the visual appeal of the game, which is a real motivator for learning. Download, print out, laminate, cut out & shuffle the cards. I’d definitely recommend you laminate the cards, despite the extra prep and expense. They’re far more learner-friendly, and they will last for absolutely years. Distribute the cards, one or two per student, depending on how many students you have in your group. I often play too - students really do enjoy it when I join in, and they seem to work that little bit harder on their concentration and pronunciation. Students walk around the room, talking to each other in their best French accent, sharing the information on their cards, until they have arranged the numbers in the correct order. The game works best played against a timer, regularly over a longer-term series of lessons - can students beat beat their own time record? I always do some high-speed counting warm-up activities, forwards & backwards, to get everyone ready to play! I encourage my beginner French students to build up comprehensive vocabulary banks that they can reference easily whenever they need it - we also use them for quick vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on. This particular sheet is for my more experienced French learners, who’ve been learning French for a while - all the numbers are on a single page in landscape format, so the font is fairly small, but they’re comfortable with quite a bit of text on a single page - beginner learners do need to have language very clearly accessible. Have a look at this version that I give my absolute French beginners - the numbers are across two pages in portrait format: FRENCH NUMBERS 0-100 LIST FREEBIE #1 https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-numbers-0-100-list-freebie-1-12150350 My students all have reference resource folders or files - these can have a range of formats - for instance, sticking into a large exercise book, or punching holes down the left-hand side, and adding to files (we also use twine or thick string). There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag, which I tend to use for French vocabulary display, or plain. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. An instant introduction to a range of colors in French in the classroom, introducing learners to colors in French from the very beginning of their learning, and helping them familiarize themselves with both the ‘look’ of French words, and how sounds are represented in the written form. Looking at language, and the ways it works, either similarly to, or differently from, other languages, helps learners become implicitly aware of linguistic concepts, and how adjectives may change according to gender and number. This is really useful for both current and later learning. I often use the flashcards / posters for quick speaking refreshers at various points in an individual lesson, or across a series of lessons, really getting the most out of the display. The key colors are: black; blue; brown (both brun and marron); cream (both crème and vanilla); green; grey; navy blue; orange; bright pink; pink; purple; red; turquoise; white; yellow. There’s also a poster / flashcards showing the French Flag. There are two backgrounds to choose from: French Flag (Tricolore) and plain without frame, to keep prep costs to a minimum. Print on card stock and / or laminate if you can, as they are easier to manipulate as flashcards, display much more effectively as decor, and remain in excellent condition for years. It doesn’t matter if some of the colors don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the posters provide learners with daily opportunities to engage with the written word in French, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in French. These***adjectival agreement*** flashcards / posters, with a focus on the colour vert, make an ideal grammar and speaking prompt in the French classroom - I encourage students to look carefully at the differences between le monstre vert and la voiture verte in the singular, and les montres verts and les voitures vertes in the plural. I use questions such as Vrai ou faux ? Le monstre verte ? , really emphasizing, even exaggerating pronunciation, so that they can hear the difference in agreement. I often write the questions on the whiteboard, as it’s equally important that they are able to recognize the differences in the written words too, and to link sound with spelling - all of this means I really make the most from my classroom learning decor. There are two design formats to choose from - either the French flag, or plain without frame, to keep prep costs to a minimum. These four my favorite color posters make an ideal speaking prompt in the Primary French Immersion classroom - I encourage students to ask each other Quelle est ta couleur préférée ? as a lesson starter / warm-up, and to select a different color every time they answer. As they learn more colors, their answers become more varied. I tend to introduce the plural form with the connective et (and) quite quickly, so that students can extend their answers as much as they possibly can - they have great fun seeing who knows the most colors, and can create the longest answers. The key colors are: blue, green, pink and yellow. There are two design formats to choose from - either the French flag, or plain without frame, to keep prep costs to a minimum. I encourage my beginner French students of all ages and stages to build up comprehensive vocabulary banks that they can reference easily whenever they need it, and they’re also really useful for regular vocabulary audits, which really helps students map their progress and keep track of their learning. Students take responsibility for organizing their own learning materials from the very beginning of their learning, keeping them carefully in vocabulary learning files or folders. My students all have reference resource folders or files - these can have a range of formats - for instance, sticking into a large exercise book, or punching holes down the left-hand side, and adding to files (we also use twine or thick string). I also use this kind of vocabulary list for quick vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on, and it also works well laminated for small-group work in class time. The font size is fairly large, as ensuring that language is clear and accessible is essential for beginner language learners, as they begin to familiarize themselves with words and spelling systems in a new language. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag, which I generally use for French vocabulary display, and black wave. I like to give visual vocabulary lists to my young beginner learners of French, as they can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell time. Children glue the lists into their French vocabulary books, or file them in their French vocabulary folders with other vocabulary lists, which gives them an accessible and useful French vocabulary reference bank for both class and home learning. For young and / or beginner French learners, I focus initially on a single time set, and this list shows half past the hour on a single page. This is because in my experience students benefit from a very clear outline of new language and vocabulary, avoiding lots of text on a single page - even my older students who are completely new to French prefer this. When I’m sure that students are confident with o’clock, I then move on to additional time sets. ESL EFL ENGLISH NUMBERS 0-31 English Numbers 0-31 Task Cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of English and English numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The questions have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in,* speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words in English*. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on Numbers 0-31, but also as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn numbers in English, but also to develop English Language skills in general, to enjoy working with English, and to feel confident about doing so. There’s definitely a UK theme running through many of the questions, featuring questions about fish and chips and the Loch Ness Monster for example. The questions range in complexity and challenge, and are great for honing numeracy skills too - especially if calculators are not allowed! The questions are all in English, which in itself is a really useful comprehension activity. Depending on your students, reading the questions together first to check for understanding is a good idea. ENGLISH VERBS LIST #1

ESL EFL ENGLISH VERBS LIST reference resource for students focusing on high-frequency English verbs. I’ve found that the lists are a great learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. This list is a collection of 100 high-frequency and common English verbs that students generally need in the advanced beginning to intermediate stages of their English Language learning programmes. It includes regular and irregular verbs, with some modals. They are all in the infinitive form - it’s an important step in learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful vocabulary bank, are able to recognize English verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs - at that point we can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context. Students shouldn’t take on the task of learning the verbs all at once though - this is more of a longer-term reference resource that students can use to audit their developing English verb vocabulary. There are two backgrounds to choose from - England flag (which I tend to use as part of a grammar display), and black wave - students tell me that this makes vocab lists more visually appealing, which is really useful when they’ve got a lot of vocab to work through and learn. ESL EFL ELL ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING VOCABULARY Days of the Week, Months & Seasons of the Year I create lots of reference resources for my students focusing on high-frequency English Language vocabulary. I’ve found that they’re a really successful learning support resource for learners of all ages, and at all stages of learning, and they’re really popular with my students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well laminated for small-group work in class. I designed this specifically for my young and/or beginner learners of English, with a large font - this is because in my experience students benefit from a very clear outline of new language and vocabulary, avoiding lots of text on a single page - even my older students who are completely new to English prefer this. There are two backgrounds to choose from - UK flag, which I tend to use for vocab display, or black wave. I like the visual aspect of a background for language learners, who do have a lot of vocab to work through and learn - the background definitely makes lists more visually appealing for learners. ESL EFL ENGLISH FOR CHILDREN ADVANCED BEGINNER ENGLISH INTERMEDIATE ENGLISH DATES, DAYS, MONTHS & SEASONS TASK CARDS The product is non-editable in a zipped format, It is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. Ideal for advanced beginner English into intermediate English, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of this essential English language in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The questions have a multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. The questions range in complexity and challenge, and some call upon prior knowledge too, helping students make links and build bridges in their learning. There may be some words students are not familiar with - these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too, which is essential for progress in language learning. There is a significant amount of practice and consolidation of language and grammar, such as word order, punctuation, nuances of spoken versus written language, tense, and ordinal / cardinal numbers. This maximizes the learning potential of the activity, which I take further when we look at multiple choice questions seeking to identify errors - being able to identify errors, and explain what is inaccurate, is again a really important language learning skill, and really helps students progress successfully in their learning. The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language creatively and practically, and it’s a really popular activity too - my students really enjoy creating questions for each other. The resource comprises the following non-editable files: = 36 differentiated question cards, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Laminating is definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as the cards are far more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. = answer key & answer recording sheet I tend to use these for more formal assessment purposes, so for class work, my students use their work notebook, which also saves on prep and paper. = vocabulary reference sheet Have a browse in my store for more ESL English resources, including dollar deals, special offer bundles, and freebies.
