I give my students of all grades and learning phases a whole series of reference lists, that build up into a really comprehensive reference bank over the course of their German program. They’re really popular with my students, as they know they can just go to their reference file or folder, and find what they need. They tell me that they feel far more confident about their German when they have a good grasp of core vocab. They’re great for quick vocab quizzes too.
There are two alphabetical lists - one German-English, and one English-German, as I’ve found that beginner German students prefer to have both as a reference resource. I’ve noted where a verb is separable, irregular or conjugated with sein. If my group is small, I provide students with a set of double-sided and laminated reference resources. My students all have a reference file or folder, again from the beginning of their learning, and part of helping them develop independence in, and responsibility for, their learning, is to give them opportunity to keep their learning resources in good order, and easily accessible.
The verbs are all in the infinitive form - it’s an important step in learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful vocabulary bank, are able to recognize high-frequency German verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in English - at that point we can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context. We also use our reference lists to help students audit their developing German verb vocabulary.
The list is a great time-saver for teachers too - if you’re preparing resources focusing on high-frequency German verbs for your students, the list is a good starting point.
There are two backgrounds to choose from - German flag, which I generally use for German grammar or German vocabulary display, and plain.

The lists work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Italian flag, which I tend to use for target vocabulary display, or black wave. I use a background for vocabulary lists quite a lot, because it does make them more visually appealing, which is really important for language learners who do have a lot of vocabulary to learn.

There are five Spanish to Spanish grids, with the Spanish words as prompts. Students then find them in Spanish in the grid. A great way of really consolidating vocab is to get students to complete the word list on the grid sheet too. There are also five English to Spanish grids. With these, the prompt words are in English, so students have to know the correct Spanish word in order to find it in the grid. There’s a word list to complete on these too. As the challenge increases, the words appear in an increasing number of different directions, and students can identify which directions they’re looking for by referring to the arrow key on each grid.

25 high-frequency French verbs, listed alphabetically French-English and English-French ideal as a year-round reference resource, and students find it particularly useful for exam revision, whether working in class time or at home. It’s useful for advanced beginner French students to provide a language learning map and for intermediate French students who are working with more complex language and texts, including authentic resources, and as a French vocabulary audit and enrichment.
The verbs are all in the infinitive form and feature high-frequency French verbs that I work with in the advanced beginner to intermediate stages of my French learning programs. It’s important in language learning to ensure that students quickly develop a useful French verb vocabulary bank, are able to recognize high-frequency French verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in their first or home language. At that point students can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context, enabling them to produce more detailed and descriptive language. This is an integral element of successful language learning.
Students shouldn’t take on the task of learning long lists of verbs or other vocabulary all at once though: frequent and regular use in real-world practical contexts is far more successful at embedding vocabulary into longer-term memory. I also use the books for quick vocabulary quizzes, again at frequent and regular intervals - I simply shout out the French or English verb, the first student or team to shout out the correct answer wins a point. I’ve found this to be a really successful alternative to more formal vocabulary testing.

SPANISH FOR CHILDREN BEGINNER SPANISH SPANISH NUMBERS 0-100 LIST I encourage my beginner Spanish students of all ages and stages to build up comprehensive vocabulary banks that they can reference easily whenever they need it, and they’re also really useful for regular vocabulary audits, which really helps students map their progress and keep track of their learning. Students take responsibility for organising their own learning materials from the very beginning of their learning, keeping them carefully in vocabulary learning files or folders. My students all have reference resource folders or files - these can have a range of formats - for instance, sticking into a large exercise book, or punching holes down the left-hand side, and adding to files (we also use twine or thick string).
I also use this kind of vocabulary list for quick vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on, and it also works well laminated for small-group work in class time. The font size is fairly large, as ensuring that language is clear and accessible is essential for beginner language learners, as they begin to familiarize themselves with words and spelling systems in a new language.
I have also uploaded a number reference sheet I give my more experienced Spanish learners - it’s in landscape format, with all the numbers on a single sheet, so the font size is smaller - students who’ve been learning Spanish for a while are comfortable with quite a lot of text on a single page. There are 12 sets of German Task Cards in this bundle. My students absolutely love challenge cards, and find them really useful for helping them get to grips with their German. Task cards are great for independent learning - students can work at their own pace, in pairs or in small groups, and really focus on the target language.
The questions and templates focus on multi-skill language learning, not focusing solely on the target vocabulary - they provide students with opportunities to apply prior learning, and to encounter more complex language they may not yet have covered formally in class.
There are answer keys and recording sheets for every set, though my students often just use their notebooks for writing their answers. Most sets have a question card template too - this is a really popular activity with my students, and they love to create questions for each other. Additionally, this enables them to apply their developing understanding of German in a very practical and creative way. Several sets also have accompanying vocabulary lists, which are great as a learning support resource, as well as a year-round reference resource. differentiated question cards, students don’t have to work through all cards at once - they can select cards randomly for short periods of time during lessons, whatever way suits your learning plan best.
answer recording sheet - I don’t actually always use these - I let students use their work notebooks for answers simply use their notebooks for answers. In some set, I’ve included a sheet with a background, and one without. Similarly, in some sets I’ve also included a blank sheet, with no numbers, which is useful when students are working ‘randomly’ through the cards at different times.
answer key - I find having a key essential for students, as it helps them to work and learn independently, and it also offers extra opportunity to engage with language - I tend to laminate sets of answer keys - one answer key for each small group is enough
question cards template for students to apply their knowledge practically, and to create questions for each other - this is a really challenging and popular activity, and I encourage students to include other vocab and verbs they know or learn.

Christmas is a great time to revisit language we started with a couple of months before, and these task cards are ideal for that. The questions have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling, and really help students develop more independence in their learning, moving away from more teacher-led tasks and activities.
There is a range of***Christmas-theme images as visual clues for learners, Knecht Ruprecht and Weihnachtsmann*** . 36 German Dates, Days, Months & Seasons Task Cards perfect for advanced beginner German students ready to move into beginner intermediate German. They really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of this essential beginner German vocabulary in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, entirely independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in German in general, with grammatical concepts such as adjectival endings, definite and indefinite articles in the nominative, accusative, genitive and dative and word order, and certainly in ***German dates, days, months and season***s in particular.

The game card template encourages your students to apply their developing knowledge of German practically and creatively, which is essential for successful language learning.
Reference, Recall & Write Workbook - all the words and phrases are listed German-English in language categories. There are 3 differentiated recall challenges to help students really practise and review the vocabulary:
Written Recall Challenge One: students write from memory all the words and phrases in English from a German prompt
Written Recall Challenge Two: students write from memory all the words and phrases in German from an English prompt - again, all the words and phrases are in their language category
Written Recall Challenge Three: all the words and phrases appear in random order, and switch from German to English at each question - this really does put students’ memories to the test
Encourage students to complete the Notes and Next Steps template, which helps them to reflect on their learning, and to set progress targets.

German Numbers 0-31 Task Cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of German numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping beginner German students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words in German. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on German Numbers 0-31, but also for cover lessons, as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how to count in German, but also to enjoy working with German, and to feel confident about doing so.
All questions are in German, and range in complexity and challenge, both in terms of language and number skills. I’ve used visual prompts such as math symbols to ensure all learners can engage with the questions, and this helps them to begin to infer meaning from context, and to decode cues and prompts to foster understanding. Some questions focus specifically on German math language, which students do not always engage with very often. The level of math is fairly simple, but certainly draws on prior number and arithmetic learning.
The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and arithmetic creatively and practically, which is integral to successful language learning. My students also genuinely enjoy creating questions for each other.

2-page answer recording sheet - I don’t always use a recording sheet - my students all have class workbooks, and they use those to work out their answers, and to note them down
2-page answer key One answer key for each small group is sufficient. Answer keys are essential in my view - they create a more independent learning ethos in the classroom, and offer students and additional opportunity to engage with language. Additionally, they genuinely enjoy correcting their own - and particularly each others’ - work!

These French Christmas Numbers 0-31 task cards are perfect for French Christmas lessons, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. I’ve found that lessons around the Christmas period are a great time for revisiting and practicing language and structures we’ve looked at over the semester.
The questions are entirely in French, and students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their developing knowledge of French in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in French in general, and certainly in French numbers and French Christmas vocabulary in particular.
The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on French Numbers 0-31, but also as a starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn the target vocabulary in French, but also to enjoy working with French, and to feel confident about doing so. The questions range in complexity and challenge, not only in terms of calculation, but also in terms of the level of French - they are definitely aimed at advanced beginner French learners, rather than new or recent beginners. Most learners will be able to infer meaning from context / images, which have a real French Christmas theme, such as la bûche de Noël and Père Fouettard, with vocabulary and structures repeated throughout, giving learners a chance to familiarize themselves really well with them. Nonetheless, it can be useful to read through the questions with the whole class first to check everyone is able to access the language, and therefore the activity, successfully. Students really do benefit in terms of language learning if they have several opportunities to work with the cards, rather than simply working with them in a single lesson.

The game card template encourages your students to apply their developing knowledge of German practically and creatively, which is essential for successful language learning.
Reference, Recall & Write Workbook - all the words and phrases are listed German-English in language categories. There are 3 differentiated recall challenges to help students really practise and review the vocabulary:
Written Recall Challenge One: students write from memory all the words and phrases in English from a German prompt
Written Recall Challenge Two: students write from memory all the words and phrases in German from an English prompt - again, all the words and phrases are in their language category
Written Recall Challenge Three: all the words and phrases appear in random order, and switch from German to English at each question - this really does put students’ memories to the test

I encourage my beginner Italian students of all ages and stages to build up comprehensive vocabulary banks that they can reference easily whenever they need it, and they’re also really useful for regular vocabulary audits, which really helps students map their progress and keep track of their learning. Students take responsibility for organizing their own learning materials from the very beginning of their learning, keeping them carefully in vocabulary learning files or folders. My students all have reference resource binders or files - these can have a range of formats - for instance, sticking into a large exercise book, or punching holes down the left-hand side, and adding to files. We also use twine or thick string, which young Italian learners really enjoy making.
I also use this kind of vocabulary list for quick vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on, and it also works well laminated for small-group work in class time. The font size is fairly large, as ensuring that language is clear and accessible is essential for beginner language learners, as they begin to familiarize themselves with words and spelling systems in a new language.
I have also uploaded a number reference sheet I give my more experienced Italian learners - it’s in landscape format, with all the numbers on a single sheet, so the font size is smaller - students who’ve been learning Italian for a while are comfortable with quite a lot of text on a single page.
