These resources span my career; from my period of teaching unqualified, through to an AST of English & Director of Teaching & Learning. Although my specialism is English, I have taught GCSE Citzienship, Language and Lit, Media Studies, Maths & History. I have also taught all of those at Key Stage 3, so there is an eclectic mix here. As the main trainer in my previous school, I have uploaded many insets and training session powerpoints too.

Lesson Starter Apostrophes
This is a simple task that reminds pupils of how to use apostrophes; it then has some tasks to complete. Use with mini whiteboards for whole class AFL - on PP to be added to any lesson.
Analysing a Book cover answer sheet
This is a worksheet that asks questions about the cover of books for pupils to fill in. Learning Intention is that pupils will decipher the messages on the cover.
WJEC Legacy Spec Section B Writing
Although this was originally created for the legacy spec teaching of section B foundation, the skills in this PP lesson are still relevant and I am confident that the lesson can be adapted for teaching either the new spec or the writing skills included
This is a completely original, never seen before resource, as it has been created by myself. I have used the GCSE criteria from both AQA and Edexcel to create a 1-9 style APP grid to help pupils to see what they need to do at each grade band in order to meet the criteria for each assessment objective for the new style GCSE paper 1, pre 1914 task.
The bandings are based on where the skills would fall on old A*-C but ramped up for vigour, using the new terminology. You'll see when you look at the sheet.
The question is styled on an AQA style question and is original - not the current AQA SAMs that are out there - so this gives you something new to work with.
Not only that, the lesson then teaches students HOW to write an answer to a question that focusses on language and structure, naming the techniques.
If you're struggling to teach the new GCSEs, the format of this lesson and the resources with it, will really help you!
The whole resource is the assessment, marking sheet, full lesson and all of the lesson resources.
The next lesson will be to give pupils their books back and get them to attempt to continue marking - after you have marked their work!
Watch them make progress!
This can be used alongside my other resources for the poem Elegy by Tichbourne. It uses all of the opposite ideas in the poem to create a starter where pupils need to match the ideas to become familiar with the poem before reading it.
This is a full lesson PP on the prologue to Romeo and Juliet - used predominantly for the old specification, it can easily be changed to update to the new with a new mark scheme.
Full lesson PP on Religion in Renaissance period
This is a full lesson PP. It’s only a starting point as I used it when I was unqualified some years ago but gives some basic information and can be adapted
This is one of the many lessons and resources that I have uploaded for the teaching of Macbeth to year 7s working at level 4/5 in English. It's based on an end result of old SATs style type question that can be APP'd.
This is a planning sheet to help pupils to collate ideas for acting out the chosen scene.
This is one of the many lessons and resources that I have uploaded for the teaching of Macbeth to year 7s working at level 4/5 in English. It's based on an end result of old SATs style type question that can be APP'd.
This particular sheet helps pupils to plan the advise that they wuld give to Macbeth, if they were the Director.
This lesson is a ready to teach powerpoint - you may wish to make slight adaptations to it for your own context - designed for teaching descriptive skills for year 7 pupils trying to hit level 4 criteria.
This is a full lesson PP - ready to teach - although you may wish to change / differentiate to your own context on the above named topic. This lesson is about gathering the news.
The Monkey's Paw - Full lesson PP Lesson
This is one lesson of 8 separate Powerpoints that compile a Key Stage 3 scheme of work that leads to an assessment that can be leveled on The Monkey's Paw. All of the lessons have been uploaded separately under the same title as above.
This is a series of lessons that I've created for the AQA specification Controlled assessment on Writing. Pupils take apart a series of written texts about Manchester and then try to create their own written piece about the city. The last few lessons and resources are uploaded here in one place so that you can teach them together or separately. The others will be uploaded under the same heading if you want to teach the scheme.
This is a series of lessons that I've used with year 9 based on the scene from a film task for AQA. It wasn&'t actually submitted as controlled assessment as it is part of building pupils up ready to sit CA in year 10 and 11.
This is one lesson that I have taken from a whole scheme of lessons. Each poem can be used as an individual lesson, or, if you would like to teach all of the lessons, search for ' Poetry Scheme - 3 Poems - Lesson Miss R' and they should all come up for you to work with. At the end of the unit, there is a reading and writing assessment that involves analysis and creativity too. This lesson expalins to pupils how to start linking poems together.
