These resources span my career; from my period of teaching unqualified, through to an AST of English & Director of Teaching & Learning. Although my specialism is English, I have taught GCSE Citzienship, Language and Lit, Media Studies, Maths & History. I have also taught all of those at Key Stage 3, so there is an eclectic mix here. As the main trainer in my previous school, I have uploaded many insets and training session powerpoints too.

Game Show Revision Of Literacy Basics Scheme

(1)
These are a mini scheme of lessons that are designed to get low ability secondary pupils to engage with the basics by setting up their own Game show. Each week the pupils become more competent at each area and they design their own rounds in a quiz. In the last lesson, the pupils host the quiz with other pupils of the same age. Great for raising self esteem as well. As, when they host, they are great!

Letter Writing Level 3 - Writing to an Author

This is a mini scheme of work that gets pupils to engage with the stories of Roger Hurn and then to write to him. Roger is a contributor to the TES and was excellent at reading and responding to the letters from these level 3 pupils with SEN. They absolutely loved the letter that they received back as he addressed them all by name and it is still up in their classroom. This is a fab scheme for primary age / ability pupils.

These are a series of lessons that I used with my low ability year 7s to get them to engage with letters that had been sent from China. The letters are attached as images if you want some inspiration. The lessons go through letter writing and how to attempt writing to others.
Outstanding Teaching & Learning Training

Outstanding Teaching & Learning Training

(28)
This is a training session that I deliver to all of the teachers that I train - at various stages of their career - although NQTs have been the ones that have got the most of it. It is yet another piece of my work that has been seen being used in training sessions where people have paid to go - so blatantly stolen. For that reason, so that no-one else makes a profit out of my work - I offer it out freely to all of my training and teaching colleagues and hope that you get a great deal out of all of the work that I have put in here!
Teaching & Learning Policies / Staff Handbook

Teaching & Learning Policies / Staff Handbook

(4)
This handbook gathers together all policies / guides that relate to teaching and learning. Although not everything included in it will be relevant to all establishments, I certainly think it will be a good starting point for anyone who is looking to put together a T&L handbook for staff. Policies relate to marking, behaviour management etc. and the powerpoint is what I used to deliver to staff upon introducing the handbook.

This is a mini scheme of work for KS4 English students in which they prepare their own individual contribution about what they would put into room 101. The lessons go through the context of room 101 and then how to structure their speech.

Full Scheme of Work on Poetry for year 9s

(10)
This is another one of my schemes of work for year 9 that mirrors the skills needed for GCSE. In this scheme, pupils pick up the basics of poetry and analyse different poems. The reading assessment is about comparing the poems and then this leads to a writing assessment that starts at the end of the poems. Pupils then turn one of the poems into a moviemaker presentation and you can assess them for speaking and listening as they explain their image choices. Everything is together here.
Tell Tale Heart / Scene From Film Scheme Lessons

Tell Tale Heart / Scene From Film Scheme Lessons

(1)
These are a series of lessons with their resources that cover both reading and writing skills for year 9 pupils. In Year 9, the curriculum for English, mirrors the GCSE language curriculum, as I teach pupils how to prepare for the independence of controlled assessment. These lessons teach pupils the skills they need for GCSE but they are heavily tied into the APP framework for assessment at KS3. This was a scheme that the pupils really engaged with and enjoyed. It gets them to complete a reading analysis of the Tell Tale Heart, then to complete their own piece of gothic writing.

Drama Lessons - New Teacher

These were two lessons that I put together for some KS3 pupils that helped me to film a behaviour management video. It enabled me to get the pupils to act badly so that I could video them and interview them about new teachers. I then used the video for my behaviour management training for NQTs.

Outstanding English Lessons For 6th Forms / Colleg

This is a full 2 hour training session that I designed for a local college when the framework changed for English and post 16 education. It was designed to help those delivering English get some ideas on how to make their lessons outstanding. Lots of ideas are included and this can easily be cut apart to be used for other subjects or across the school. I have also uploaded a very similar powerpoint for 11-16 schools. This one refers to the ofsted criteria for post 16 education

Spoken Language Features Outstanding Lesson

(7)
This is a full lesson powerpoint with all resources embedded at the end. I just used this lesson to secure my next job and it was judged as outstanding at interview. The lesson uses progress indicators, independence and cooperative learning to enable pupils to teach each other features of spoken language. Great for controlled assessment and teaching skills / knowledge of spoken langauge.

Every now and then, I teach a little RE as I work in a Catholic school. This is a lesson that explores the societies different views of marriage and gets pupils to consider the Catholic view and whether or not it is still possible to uphold in this day and age.

Shakespeare & Sonnets Scheme for Control Ass. Y10

(8)
This is a full scheme of work that consists of all lessons power points and resources - similar to the one that I've added for Richard III (if you want something less conventional). It&'s for the controlled assessment that compares a Shakespeare play with his Sonnets. The focus of the question is strong feelings of love.
Shakespeare & Poems Assessment - Richard III

Dennis Kelly's DNA KS3 Literature Scheme 18-31

(1)
These are the second half of the lessons of a scheme of work that I created last year for DNA by Dennis Kelly. It is aimed at a year 9 class, as the idea is that I am starting to prepare them for GCSE Literature. Therefore, the scheme is a mix of analysis and playing with the text too. I've used a variety of ideas to teach it. All lessons are complete lessons in themselves with the resource at the end of the powerpoint, so they are all embedded. You may wish to adapt / cut apart and mix them up.
