Lesson talking about what you can do in your region.
Aimed at Yr10s Foundation/bottom set.
4 lessons of 50 min / 1 hour each.
Lesson 1: Geographical features and text study of people talking about their region + guided writing task.
Lesson 2: Suprelatives study and practice.
Lesson 3: Superlatives further practice with guided writing.
Lesson 4: Activities leading to writing a paragraph.
Wall of connectives, each connective goes on a brick of a different size.
You can modify the bricks to add in your own connectives (other words or other language!)
Student use connectives to “build” their paragraph.

Lessons revising weather and using it to create Si clauses sentences using the near future tense.
4 lessons of 50 min / 1 hour divided in:
Lesson 1: Revision of weather in the present tense.
Lesson 2: Practice of weather expression in games, and listening (weather forecast) / reading / writing task.
Lesson 3: Revision of activities in the infinitive, leads up to near future revisions.
Lesson 4: Si clauses practice and guided writing.
Aimed at Yr10 Foundation/Bottom set.
This lesson covers the advantages and disadvantages, with before / after comparison.
2 lessons of 50 min / 1 hour:
Lesson 1: introduction of basic vocab and practicing it through increasingly challenging reading + Higher negative sentences
Lesson 2: What there is in the city (nightclubs, young people, unemployement…) + chunks of imperfect tense + practice of “before it was ___ but now it is ___”.
Lesson aimed at Yr9 students covering vocabulary related to technologies and what you can do online. Includes videos from French ads used to study vocab, then students have to write their own ad and do a voiceover over a French ad.
Lesson 1:
Introduction and practice of activites people do on the Internet.
Lesson 2:
Introduction and practice of technologies (baladeur MP3, portable,…) and vocabulary linked to them (avoir du réseau).
Study of the ad “une tablette déconnectée”.
Leads to student writing their own ad as a voice over another French ad for a phone.
Differentiation possibility (included): use the second ad to study the vocab (rather than the first ad).
Lesson 3 (two possibilities - both included):
Both include reading as a writing model, and leads to a writing task.
One lesson focuses on the structure “il est + adj + de + inf”
The second lesson focuses on a writing frame used across all topics to answer writing questions.
Lessons aimed at Yr11 students covering the vocabulary of hotel furniture and hotel booking.
Both lessons include a grammar point on “on” vs “nous” and lead to a role play (made up but following GCSE format).
Foundation has a bigger focus on activities to remember the vocabulary whereas Higher goes into sentences sooner.
Higher has activities with added difficulty (differentiated down as well, with different worksheets) and Foundation has the same activities made more simple (simpler questions, simpler sentences, etc…) still with
Lesson aimed to a higher Yr10 group covering the vocabulary of holidays activities in the present tense, then in the perfect tense (including reflexive verbs).
A five-hour lesson:
Lesson 1:
Re teach of comparatives with a focus on word order without scaffolding.
Conjugation activities, conjugating ER verbs at the first person singular in the perfect tense, present tense, near future, future and conditional.
Leads to a mwb activity mixing tenses and a translation to French mixing tenses.
Lesson 2:
Focus on the twelve holidays activities, tasks supporting memory, leads up to a guided writing.
Lesson 3:
Focus on the beginning of the activities (mostly je vais / je fais / je me).
Study of the past tense of reflexive verbs.
Lesson 4:
Application of the past tenses on the twelve activities and practice of both tenses in a listening.
Lesson 5:
Challenging reading activity with inference needed to answer questions (as well as knowledge of some synonyms in French.
Leads to a writing and a speaking practice.
Bundle gathering the Foundation and Higher lesson, aimed at Yr10s, covering vocabulary of holiday travels with countries, transports and accommodation.
Grammar: both cover “en”, “au”, “aux” before countries.
Foundation: recap of the negative sentence with a focus on word order & present tense of “aller”.
Higher: focus on the conditional, reflexive verbs to talk about routine, then reflexive verbs in the conditional (extension, the option of only recapping the present tense of reflexive verbs is also available).
Lesson aimed at a Year 10 class, covering the vocabulary of transports, booking a ticket and comparing transports.
Foundation has slightly less challenging resources, with more activities focusing on practice of single words / chunks for memory. The writing/speaking frame for the role play is also simplified.
Higher, on top of a more challenging lesson, has also a challenging listening gap fill / reading texts that is done as a whole class study through 4 activities based on listening / reading strategies.
Bundle containing the Foundation and Higher version of the same lesson, covering vocabulary of restaurant menu, order food and taking orders.
Foundation has an extra recap on food items and “some”.
Higher goes more straight into studies of more complex reading and listening of interaction in a restaurant. The sentence builder to give one’s opinion about a past experience has more vocabulary than the Foundation one.
Bundle containing the Higher and Foundation version of the lesson “Problem on holidays”, covering the vocabulary of what can go wrong (dirty hotel, broken limb, things stolen…) and what they had to do.
Both lessons have a quick look at the imperfect tense, what it is, when to use it, but keep it as the use of “c’était” and “il y avait”.
Higher lesson introduces and practises the pluperfect.
1 hour lesson designed for Yr11 classes, covering the topic of future plans.
Foundation covers sentences in the present tense + infinitive that have value of future (j’espère, je veux,…) and recaps on the simple future.
Higher, on top of that, covers the perfect infinitive (après avoir voyagé…) as well as the subjunctive (optional for the lesson).
Both lessons lead to a guided writing at the end, involving tenses and sequencers

Foundation:
Lesson 1: Pratice of new vocab through the game “Quiz Quiz Trade” then leads to sentence writing with the same structure repeated to support memorisation "Je voudrais être prof et je travaillerais dans une école avec des enfants.
Lesson 2: After the Do Now / Starter, start with a past paper listening (2019) about where young people want to work (going through listening strategies again). Speaking activity to review the structure from lesson 1 (version of the sentence thief), finally a Listening, Speaking and writing around a survey. The end writing is in the 3rd person singular and aim to be a practice run to answer the question “Qu’est-ce que tes parents font comme travail?”
Lesson 3: Starter consists of 3 bullet points from past paper writing. Students have to translate the bullet point and choose the most appropriate response for each of them (revision of theme 2). Lesson carries on with a listening revising adjectives of personality, job environment,… and introduces sector. Sectors are drilled in through several games of Morpion (tic tac toe / noughts and crosses). Leads to the practice writing (modelled by the teacher) of a bullet point from a past paper (Foundation 20 mark from 2021).

Concept of the booklet:
The concept of this Conversation booklet is straightforward - Simple questions, Complex answers.
The aim of this speaking booklet is to enhance students’ results by removing (as much as possible) the first layer of difficulty when it comes to the conversation task: understanding the question.
To do this, the 9 questions per theme follow the pattern below:
Parle-moi de… present tense (x2)
Qu’est-ce que tu penses de… Opinion (x3)
____ dernier/dernière, … past tense (x2)
_____ prochain / prochaine,… future tense (x2)
Opinion questions: you can also ask them a closed question always starting with « tu aimes…? » and coach them to develop their answers.
Eg: « tu aimes le foot? » rather than «Qu’est-ce que tu penses du foot? »
The booklet also contains:
Presentation of the conversation task (what, timings, themes and topics)
Presentation of the top band markscheme for Higher and Foundation.
Language elements to meet each requirement of the markscheme.
One minute presentation: writing frame (designed by a colleague of mine) for Higher and Foundation + space to write.
