This fun and experimental lesson is perfect as a filler lesson, where students use Indian ink and oil pastels to create their own Indian Ink Bugs. The resource includes a PowerPoint (covering two lessons) that provides step-by-step guidance on drawing bugs in an experimental and playful way. Students will then add patterns and use oil pastel blending techniques to transition from dark to light. For students who may find drawing from scratch challenging, the PowerPoint includes bug templates they can use. To extend the lesson, you could photograph each student’s work and have them digitally edit their creations, using them for pattern-making workshops. This A5 landscape resource includes a weekly reward chart* (doubled on one A4 for printing convenience)* designed to help track student progress and achievement. The chart provides space for students to write their weekly target (with room for 3 weeks’ worth of targets) and allows teachers to mark daily progress with a simple tick. At the end of the week, there’s space for a teacher’s response comment. The chart also includes a section at the top for the student to note what they are working towards. I found this especially effective for SEN and ALN learners, and I used it by sticking the visual reminder on the inside cover of their books, changing it every 3 weeks.
