Shape and Space Investigation - KS2/KS3

(2)
This is a simple open ended shape and space investigation focussing on the formula for the perimeter of a shape. This is an ideal unit to introduce younger KS2 children to maths investigation skills as the patterns are simple to spot. The unit can be used to assess AT1 or as a KS2/3 transition project. This can be used as a lesson with a starter, main and plenary included with animations. Teachers notes are also included.

Data Handling Skills: KS2/KS3 Project

(3)
This transition project allows pupils to handle data in a real life context. The work is split from Years 5 to 8, with opportunity for groups to revisit the previous year’s results. Year 5 collects discrete data, finds the mode and range and displays the results on an interactive bar graph. Year 6 collects discrete data, finds the mode, median, mean and range and displays their results on an interactive pictogram. Year 7 collects discrete data and displays their data on an interactive scatter diagram. Year 8 collects and analyses continuous data using an interactive reaction timer.

Polygons Interactive Activity with Worksheets -KS3

(2)
A visual unit that can be used to promote thinking and encourage group discussion about the properties of polygons. Pupils can use the information provided to accurately draw diagrams to represent equilateral, isosceles, right-angled and scalene triangles along with many regular quadrilaterals. The activity consists of information sheets, an interctive whiteboard activity and worksheets on polygons, trianlgles and quadrilaterals. Ideal for KS3 students.

3-D shape investigation.Shape properties. KS3.

(7)
This unit is made up of three mini interactive activities focusing on the properties of 3D shapes. The first activity is based on Euler’s theory. The pupils need to find a rule that links the faces, edges and vertices together. The interactive activity allows them to manipulate the shapes on screen to count the faces, edges and vertices. The second activity has them using their knowledge of the properties of 3D shapes to form a polyhedral chain. The third activity allows the pupils to investigate which edges will meet when a net folds to form a 3D shape.

Geometry- KS3 Investigation Activity

(2)
Pick's Theorem, In this interactive KS3 investigation students work out the area of shapes using different combinations of pins on the perimeter and inside the shape. Can you find a pattern? How will you work out if there is a general rule to finding the area of any polygon? Teachers guides and notes are included
