A lesson on Act 1 Scene 5. It begins with looking at gender roles and Shakespeare’s portrayal of women. Students then make predictions about Lady Macbeth, based on the historical context. Students complete the worksheet on Lady Macbeth’s soliloquy- analysing the language and imagery. Finally, students consider the portrayal of Lady Macbeth and the witches. Students read contextual sources for information about witches (included for printing) before collating their knowledge and using it to produce a leaflet about how to spot a witch. I made my students complete the leaflet for homework and they produced some very imaginative responses. You could read an extract from Roald Dahl’s ‘The Witches’ as a starter. I’ve also included some extracts produced by my students as examples for the creative leaflets . Overall it was fun to teach and my students loved it. A lesson introducing emergency situations, CPR and Rescue Breathing to EFL students. Activity 1- students brainstorm emergency scenarios using picture prompts on ppt. Activity 2- Introduce the term ‘emergency call’ and ‘the fire department’, the police’ and ‘ an ambulance. Students then look at pictures of different emergencies and say which should be called for each different situation. Activity 3- Students match pictures to the vocabulary by writing A, B, C, D in the corresponding boxes. (worksheet) Activity 4- In teams, students use the vocabulary learnt in the lesson to write their own emergency call. (worksheet) and the perform it in front of the rest of the class. Activity 5- Students practice CPR and Rescue Breathing on their manikins using the hand out and PPT. Select students to demonstrate correct procedure to the rest of the class. Activity 6- Link in PPT to a Mr. Bean YouTube video. Students assess what he does wrong in the emergency scenario and what they would do differently. Activity 7- Reading comprehension. Can be printed and students read through and answer questions on the PPT. Activity 8- Team guessing game. Students guess which emergency number belongs to which country. (also included as a worksheet where students draw a line to match them) Activity 9- Link to British comedy ‘The IT Crowd) video clip on YouTube. Students watch and then answer questions. A powerpoint and worksheets I created for my TEFL students introducing British food. Outline: 1-7: Discussion questions about food. E.g ‘What is your favourite snack?’ 8-9: Brief overview of British food and pubs. 10-19: Quiz about British foods with ABC multiple choice options. E.g ‘What do we pour on a Roast?’ A. Gravy B. Groovy C. Greasy 20-24: Guess the foods Game. Using the worksheet, students tick the foods that they believe are from the UK. 25-27: Bingo Game Using the Bingo worksheets provided, students choose 9 British foods and write them in the squares (I have also included 18 pre-filled sheets for convenience). On slide 27, ask students to choose a letter and click the letter tab at the side. It will reveal a food and if students wrote it down they cross out the square on their sheet. The first student to complete all their squares wins. 28-33 Crossword and wordsearches (with answers) Using the worksheet, students look at the example pub menu. The missing words correspond with the crossword answers. ** 34-43** Role play activity and key phrases Students design their own three course menu (sheet provided) and then take it in turns to practice the role play situations. ** 44-48** Amendable worksheets

Students write a response to the question: ‘How does Shakespeare present the theme of guilt in this extract, and elsewhere in the play?’ Using the powerpoint, encourage students to consider key quotations from this scene. Students then highlight on the worksheet where the model paragraph has met AO1, AO2 and AO3 before continuing the response and writing an additional two paragraphs. Finally, students re-read their work and use the self-assessment checklist.

A fully resourced lesson which focuses on the language used to describe Dracula and gothic monsters. Students read and highlight the extract, making inferences about the character based on the way his appearance and actions are described. Using the worksheet, they select three key quotations to unpick in detail. Homework: Students have to write their own description of a gothic monster in the style of Bram Stoker. A colourful classroom display to help develop a positive, growth mindset. Includes the images as well as 8 negative phrases and 8 positive ways of approaching tasks to make your own display and to show students how to change the ways they approach learning and different challenges. I have also condensed the images into a smaller A3 style poster to be printed with ease and to save time rather than cutting out all the individual pieces. Suitable for all subjects!

Lesson one: Focus on Gothic descriptions and the door. Students read an extract from Dracula then complete as peer-assessed piece of creative writing about a doorway and the occupant. Lesson two: Analysis of the introduction to Mr Hyde including highlighted focus points and guided questions. Lesson three: Looks at non-fiction. Students analyse a newspaper report for emotive language and then must produce their own for the girl trampling incident in chapter one.

This was Day 1 of my Roald Dahl themed EFL summer camp. It includes art activities, games and cooking ideas based on the book ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’.The day followed this plan: Introduction 1. Introduce the story and characters 2. Students use the worksheet to draw themselves in the style of Quentin Blake and write about their favourite things. 3. Allocate students into teams and they introduce themselves to the rest of their team. Team Games 1. Chocolate relay Race - Students must run to unwrap the chocolate twix bar and then feed it to the next person in their team. 2. Balloon Popping Game - In teams students must throw the darts to try and pop the balloons. The team to pop the most wins points. 3. Golden Egg and Spoon Race - Students must race around the room, against the other team, whilst balancing an egg on a spoon. If they drop the egg they must restart and go again. The winning team wins points. 4. Design a candy -Introduce different ingredients (unscramble the letters for EFL) -Taste Test (students try to describe what they are eating whilst blindfolded) - Introduce Willy Wonka’s strange inventions. - In teams the students must think of a new type of chocolate bar/candy. -Students draw and describe their invention using the worksheet and make posters. - Teams present their invention to the rest of the class (my personal favourites were flying insect sweets and ‘King Candy’ that tasted like gold and made you feel like royalty for an hour… kids can be so imaginative!) -The most interesting new candy invention will win points. Art and Crafts 1. Clay Photo frames -Using coloured card, PVA glue, paints and clay students decorate their individual photo frames. 2. Photobooth Props - Students make props and costumes for the photobooth- including small hats, funny hairstyles, bowties, cut out candy bars and golden tickets on sticks that they can hold and pose with. A group photo is then chosen and printed to go in the frame as a fun reminder of the camp. Cooking 1. Willy Wonka Bread - Students spread butter or Nutella onto their sliced bread and decorate with sprinkles. These sandwiches can be cut into shapes and eaten… - As they eat their sandwiches students can watch the movie with subtitles. - If they finish early or don’t want to watch the movie they can complete the wordsearch worksheet. 2. Chocolate fondue and fruit slices on sticks. 3. Wonka fudge and Oompa Loompa cheesecake pops- I found these online and have included images and links to the recipes in the ppt. 4. Augustus Gloop Chocolate Slime -Again found online. I did not have time to try this with my students but there is a link to the instructions. *Not edible!

A whole lesson on the poetic form of a sestina. Students are introduced to the structure before looking at two examples by Elisabeth Bishop and Anthony Hect. Finally, there is a planning worksheet so that students can write their own sesitna poem with the correct structure.

Checking in to a Hotel Key expressions: receptionist, manager, customer, reception, rooms, bar, restaurant, bathroom, I booked a room for this weekend, let me check your details, here is your room key, breakfast is served from… Students learn vocabulary associated with checking in to a hotel. -PPT introduces key expressions through a ‘virtual tour’ of a fictional hotel. In teams they compete to win points in a quiz based on what they just saw. Students then practice the checking in dialogue through a pair based role play. Finally using worksheets they can put the dialogue into the correct order, complete a crossword, match the hotel facilities to the pictures and finally write a short opinion based piece on whether they would choose to stay at this particular hotel. *The PPT and worksheets have Korean translations of the English vocabulary however these can be easily amended as I have included both PDF and word document files.
