A flexible Literacy lesson that uses the topic of fire to generate ideas of a poem. This is an excellent lesson for the end of a poetry topic. Children are encouraged to use their senses as well as simile and onomatopoeia to create a poem all about fire. this would fit in very well with Bonfire Night, the Stone Age, Fire of London or Halloween. Children can write their poetic phrases onto flames and build up their poem like a real bonfire. This makes for a wonderful class display. Alternatively, there is writing paper for the children to use instead.

Both checklists follow the interim framework criteria which was used for SATs assessments and moderations. Whole class checklists allow the teacher to have an overview of the whole class on one page and identify gaps to cover further. They include working at, working towards and greater depth checklist. Additionally, there is a spelling checklist of a shortened version of the common exception words, contractions and some suffix words. Individual checklists for pupil books allow children to identify how well they are doing and what they need to work on next. Checklists are available using the exact language of the interim framework and a ‘child speak’ version.

This lesson explores the possible colour combinations that can be created by joining different coloured tufts to the trunks of the Truffula trees. This is a complete lesson with flipchart, lesson plan, recording sheet and photocopy sheet for children to make the combinations before recording them. Children are extended to explain how they solved the problem and consider what they would need to do in a new colour is added.

A set of 39 Bingo activities that cover number facts for the year 2 National Curriculum. Included is a powerpoint with 39 slides to show the children and separate powerpoint with 39 slides for the teacher to read out. There is also a recording sheet. Children pick 5 numbers or calculations and write them on the recording paper or whiteboard. Print off the teacher powerpoint and read the numbers or calculations for children to solve the problem. Children cross off each number they have chosen if they are the answer. When all 5 are crossed off, they jump up and call BINGO. You must be the first one of the room to win! An excellent activity to make revising key facts fun! This resources could be used as early morning work during the register or as a Numeracy lesson starter. Born female, James Barry is one of the first documented transgender scientist who rose the ranks of the British Army to Inspector General of Hospitals in Canada. He fought for improved sanitation and healthcare for most vulnerable and rejected members of society at the time; mentally ill, prisoners, enslaved people, soldiers’ families and lepers. Among many of his achievements was the world’s first documented caesarean section where the mother and baby both survived. His secret was never discovered until he had died and when it was the army covered up his documentation for the next 100 years. A great Scientist to study to showcase how an individual can overcome adversity. Could be taught alongside the start of the Victorian Era. Can be used at upper KS2 or lower KS3 level. This allows children two weeks to practise each word so that they can build a solid memory of each word when using them in their writing.
