This resource relates to addition and missing numbers from 1 to 10 using minibeasts, bugs and insects. Children count in order from 1 to 10 and then looking at a range of numbers decide which number(s) is missing. As the children get used to seeing missing numbers, they then add the missing numbers together. This resource includes worksheets and PowerPoint Presentations. UPDATED with ‘I Spy’ Find and Count fun activity. Aimed at: Reception/Year 1 (US: Pre-K/K) This resource contains two lesson starters on PowerPoint. The numbers are from 1 to 10 on each grid. Learning objectives: Count in order; recognise missing numerals, add two sets of numbers together - extension to adding three single digits for more able children. Presentation 1 (45 Slides) - Each grid has a missing number and children write down the missing number. This extends to two missing numbers then three. Presentation 2 (30 Slides) - Each grid has two missing numbers. The children write down the missing numbers and then add the missing numbers together. This resource relates to statistics on the topic of dot plots. It introduces dot plots on PowerPoint (12 Slides). The presentation demonstrates how the data was collected, rearranging data in numerical order, and presenting the data on a frequency table. Using the information on the frequency table, students are shown how to create a dot plot/line plot via Slide Show animation. Two detailed examples are shown. Content: • PowerPoint Presentation (12 Slides) • 1 Flexible Lesson Plan (1- 2 hrs) • 2 Sets of worksheets (4pgs) • 1 ready-made project sheet for students to survey their table group • 1 project sheet example Flexible Lesson Plan (4 pgs) The plan includes a lesson starter on adding two-digit numbers together. The method is adding the tens numbers first and then counting on the ones for quick mental addition. (If you wish, you can choose your own mental starters). Also includes lesson objectives, main activities on dot plots and recap session. Presentation slides are referred to and there are suggested questions you might want to ask your students. PowerPoint Presentation The presentation explains a dot plot and then looks at two examples from capturing the raw data, presenting them in frequency tables, and then creating dot plots. Case study 1: Students are shown how Mr Smith creates a dot plot from data how long it takes his staff to travel to school. Case study 2: Students are shown how Miss Tucker creates a dot plot to see how many siblings each of her students have. Independent Practice Worksheet 1 (2pgs): Selling Cupcakes Page 1 - Students read a very short paragraph in order to insert the information in a frequency table and then they create a dot plot. Referring to the hundred square to complete word problem questions. If you are looking for some hundred square activities, then resource is ideal for use in lessons, review and homework. Answer Keys included. Content: • Worksheet 1 – (2 pages) - Students complete the hundred square from 1 to 100. After completing it, there are 11 questions to answer. • Worksheet 2 – (2 pages) - Students fill in the partially completed hundred square. After completing it, there are 7 activities to do. WITH ANSWER SHEETS Each of the four worksheets contain a variety of tasks for students to complete on the topic of buying school stationery. Worksheet 1 - Students look at the pictures and price of each item and then work out how much two items of school supplies cost. Two questions at the bottom: Which student spent the most? Which student spent the least amount of money? Worksheet 2 - This worksheet is similar to the above except students are working out what 3 items of school stationery cost. Worksheet 3 - Students answer 6 questions about the items, e.g. Which item is the most expensive? This resource is primarily aimed at EYFS/Reception and Year 1 as it relates to subtraction to 10 and writing subtraction sentences using a Tens Frame. Content: • All Task Cards are also on PowerPoint – 55 Slides • PowerPoint Demo Lesson • 55 Subtraction Task Cards - PDF PowerPoint Slides - Task Cards The cards are on PowerPoint Slides so you have the option of changing the colour of the counters and also moving the slides around. You can do this activity as a whole class. Hand out whiteboards and dry erase pens. Ask students to work out the first subtraction sum. Ask what did they do first? How did they write the taking away sum? PowerPoint Demonstration (6 Slides) on how to do the task cards This presentation shows students how to go about writing and working out the subtraction sums. There are 6 slides which show step-by-step how to use the task cards. Before you show the next stage, you could ask students ‘What do you do next?’ before showing the next step. Ask the students to count the counters/dots as they appear in the animation. Ask students how many counters are crossed when the animation has crossed through the counters/dots. Get the students to say how many counters are left before revealing the answer. 55 Subtraction Task Cards (PDF) Print out the task cards and laminate. These can be used in small group sessions or as part of a whole lesson. After showing the demo on how to use the task cards, students can practise writing taking sums. Make it clear to the students that they must count all the counters on the tens frame, the big number, and write this down. Then count the counters with the crosses which shows they have been taken away. You could even cover up the counters with crosses with a blank sheet of paper show demonstrate they have been taken away. Aimed at: Reception/Year 1 If you operate a carousel system in your class, you can place the different activities on the tables for children to practise number work/patterns. Content and Description Includes Teacher Notes • Counting in ones missing number sequence worksheet – Children complete sequence by writing the missing numbers in the heart. • Number bonds to 10 and 20 - x2 sets of worksheets – this is a cut and stick activity. Children cut out a broken heart on worksheet 2 to match and stick to a broken heart on worksheet 1. The hearts add up to 10 on one set of worksheets; and then add up to 20 on the second set of worksheets. • Counting using Tens Frame – Pictures are placed in different positions on the tens frame. Children count and write the number in the space provided. • Count and tick to match activity – Numicon – Children count the pictures in the squares and then tick the Numicon shape that matches the number of pictures. • Colour Sequence Worksheet – Children work out what comes next in the colour sequence and then complete the last two or three squares. This is a St David’s Day theme product which contains five different maths activities. Optional preparation: You can cut out the puzzle pieces and have children assemble them or get the children to cut out the sheets of puzzle pieces and they can assemble and glue onto a separate sheet of paper or into their workbooks. Content: Differentiated puzzle pieces for children to match up numbers 1 to 10 and 11 to 20. The puzzles are in colour and b/w.
