Students look at how much each item costs, cut out the coins, sort, total the amount and decide which combination of coins to stick below each picture so that they add up to the same price as the item.
Beneficial resource to assess and review student’s knowledge of coins and value and using exact change to pay for items using different denominations.

Example of one suggested activity:
Choose the cards you want to print off onto card and laminate and use with drywipe pens or you can laminate and cut out the red crosses to show taking away.
Students count the number of animals.
Write the total counted.
Cross out whatever number the card states e.g. ‘Cross out 3’
Students then count how many animals are left and write the answer.
You do not need to print off all the cards. If you wish to concentrate on subtraction within 5 with reception, then just print off the Alligator cards which are in colour and b/w.
If you want your students to practise subtraction within 12, print off the cards with goats.
Added feature: I have also included equation cards/strips which you can laminate or cut out and paste into students workbooks for additional work.

This pack contains:
- A flexible detailed lesson plan (includes learning objectives, lesson starter, main activity and plenary) - The Presentation slides are referred to in the lesson plan.
The plenary is a listening activity whereby the children (eyes closed) listen to the number of drops of a small object, pennies, marble, multi-link cubes or even those tiny chocolate Easter eggs in a container and the children tell you how many drops they heard. You then check by counting out aloud with the children how many objects were dropped in the container.
- Starter Presentation starts the lesson off with a counting song - '1, 2, Buckle My Shoe.'
