This lesson pack employs a poem entitled ‘Madrigal apasionado’ by the Spanish poet Federico García Lorca.
First, students read the original Spanish version of the poem and complete four tasks.
They then read a short informative passage about some of the things to consider when translating a piece of creative writing and complete another four tasks, including listening to a musical rendition of the poem with Spanish guitar.

Present Hunt: Santa’s sleigh has crashed and the toys have spread across the image. Translate the French list of toys and then locate and label them in the image. Answers slide included in PowerPoint.
Writing Task: Students use key verbs to write a sentence about each present.
Mini Christmas Decoration: Colour the strips the correct colours and then cut them out and stick them together in rings in the correct order. Each strip is labelled with a number and colour in French.
Chatty Christmas: Students fill in the Christmas character speech bubbles using sentences they have learned this year.
