A simple booklet template for planning a Burns Night Supper. You could use this Booklet as a maths resources and have the children collage a meal from Aldi or Lidl magazines and total the prices. It could be used on iPads and have the children digitally create a menu by inserting images and typing over the PDF. It could also be used as a writing resource as children use descriptive language to write a Burns Night Supper Menu. Examples can be found on my instagram account @TeachingInTechnicolour. As always I love to see examples of your learners using the resources and hearing feedback. You can similarly tag me on twitter @InTechnicolour

iMessage Assessment

(1)
A fun an interactive way for children to assess themselves or each other. Children can be prompted to think about questions they could be asked in a text conversation to enable them to share their learning in a deeper way. Taking on the role of the asker and answerer needs the children to think of both sides of coin - learning and sharing the learning.

In Flanders Fields - Blackout Poetry

(2)
Blackout Poetry for Remembrance of the Poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ by John McCrae Poem has been repeated multiple times within the document so there is plenty of options to select words that stand out to you. Advice taking from Twinkl on how to complete a blackout poem: Scan the page for a word that stands out to you and has significance or meaning to you. Now reread the whole page and look out for any words that could link with the first word you chose. Lightly circle with pencil any words that stand out to you. Try to avoid circling more than three words in a row. List all of the words that you have circled on a separate piece of paper. Write them in the order that they appear on the book page. Read through all of the words that you have selected and choose the final words that you would like to use in your poem. Black out any unwanted words with a black pen. Add any illustrations or pictures you would like to go with your poem. Again, use a black pen.

A word mat is provided as a guide to support those in sentence creation. Adapted this year (2022) to include the idea of thinking about parts of our bonnie wee Scotland that makes our hearts grow, to be used as Christmas cards for those newly settled in Scotland.
