Motivation in Theory and Practice. In lesson one it considers the purpose and impact of motivation and then looks at the specific theories associated with FW Taylor (Scientific Management), Elton Mayo (Human Relations Theory), Abraham Maslow (Hierarchy of Needs) and Frederick Herzberg (Two Factor Theory). In the second lesson, it looks specifically at the financial and non-financial ways of improving employee performance. It considers piece-rate, commission, bonuses, profit sharing and performance related pay before then looking at delegation, consultation, empowerment, team working, flexible working, job enrichment, job rotation and job enlargement considering how they can motivate and relate back to the theorists. One of my series of revision notes for the new AS and A Level AQA Business Studies course. Additional notes are available upon request and feedback will be much appreciated.

A new workbook aimed at developing A Level Business students' understanding of enterprise, market research and sampling methods. Primarily written to support teachers and students following the WJEC/Eduqas specification it is relevant to all boards. The work provides a variety of case studies, tasks, presentations and assignments for students to complete and finishes with a self-assessment and review of progress. It starts with an enterprise element that builds upon booklet 1 (Business Enterprise and Business Plans) and this is to help incorporate an element of practical business into the course. I tend to use the Tycoon in Schools programme by Peter Jones for this. It also examines sampling in more detail than is strictly required but this is meant as a resource from which teachers can pick and choose.
