I have these cards cut up into their categories and on different colours of card. Each category then has its own mini drawer in a mini storage chest in my classroom (found it on Amazon). More advanced students use the cards to make their own sentences, selecting the categories they wish (pronouns, verbs, etc).

The pictures and phrases are placed around the room (several copies). Pupils work in groups of 3 or 4. Each person has 30 seconds to go up to the pictures and memorise as much information as possible without speaking. They return to their group and relay as much as possible. Pupils take it in turns to do the same. Each person has 2 chances to do this.

This PPT introduces the verb 'aller' to pupils, along with its importance in the near future tense.

The text is on the topic of smoking and is aimed at KS4. In 2 teams, pupils choose a word to find in the text. The pupils don’t know what each word is worth. Click on the word they have chosen when they have correctly identified it in the text and their score will be revealed. The winning team is the team with the highest score once all words have been found in the text.

Pupils choose a number between 1 and 5. Click on the number and it will take you to the corresponding topic. Pupils talk for a minute, answering each question. The blue arrow takes you back to the numbers slide. Questions are about holidays in German (e.g. What do you like doing on holiday?)

Pupils use an example text to translate (and sometimes adapt) the given English text into the target language. In this case, pupils have to translate the underlined words/phrases as one (e.g. ‘during the holidays’ is a phrase either found in the text exactly or very similar). After being marked by the teacher, pupils then set a target before re-writing it. Whilst marking, simply write your literacy code in the boxes (for higher ability) or put the code on the pupils’ answers as well (for extra help). There are additional boxes for WWW, EBI and a post-marking re-write.

This worksheet allows pupils to work together to talk about holidays, including their opinion, different tenses and activities. They choose an option on each line and give a sentence or phrase to make it make sense.
