This is an lesson plan built around Computational Thinking mainly on Algorithms and Data Analysis. Data in computers is stored and transmitted as a series of zeros and ones. How can we represent words and numbers using just these two symbols? In this lesson students will be learning about how computers work and how to work with binary. Students will be learning how to read binary messages and by the end of the lesson they can even write their own messages as well. They will be working out 2 worksheet activities. The first one includes activities in which the students will be finding out the total answer. In the second activity they will have to decode a message and help Fred get out of his problem. Resources included: A4 Binary number cardboard cards (1, 2, 4, 8, 16) Small binary number cards for each group Worksheet 1: Exercise 1 and exercise 2 Worksheet 2: The Secret Message
